Manager, Business Strategy and Compliance

The Business Strategy and Compliance Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the company’s strategic expansion initiatives into Sabah and Sarawak. This role focuses on establishing and expanding business operations, managing cross‑functional projects, and ensuring full compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, and government policy requirements.
This position plays a critical role in supporting sustainable business growth through structured, efficient project execution aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Alignment: Ensure all expansion projects support the company’s overall business objectives and contribute to long‑term growth and competitive advantage.
- Compliance Management: Identify, interpret, and integrate external and internal compliance requirements (e.g., industry standards, safety regulations, data privacy laws, trade controls) into project plans.
- Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify potential risks related to non‑compliance or expansion efforts and implement controls to reduce them, preventing financial penalties, project delays, and operational disruptions.
- Project Leadership: Lead cross‑functional teams, manage stakeholders, define clear project scope, timelines, and budgets, and drive execution with strong coordination skills.
- Documentation and Monitoring: Establish compliance monitoring systems and ensure thorough documentation of all processes, which are critical for audits and accountability.
- Process Improvement: Evaluate project outcomes and compliance processes to inform future strategic planning and continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Ability to see the “big picture” and assess how projects impact overall business efficiency and market position.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of relevant local and international laws and industry standards (e.g., trade compliance, ESG, financial regulations).
- Project Management Expertise: Skilled in project management methodologies, often guided by the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) principles from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
- Stakeholder Management: Strong communication and negotiation skills to manage expectations and align diverse internal and external stakeholders, from team members to senior executives.
- Problem Solving: Ability to navigate obstacles, manage change, and resolve complex issues as they arise during project implementation.
