Position Summary
Flight Centre Travel Group is a fast‑paced, growth‑focused, high performance organisation. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to join a new team based out of our Kuala Lumpur hub. Reporting to the Regional Financial Controller and working closely with the Regional Finance Director, you will be responsible for the delivery of Financial and Management accounting. This role requires someone who is curious, thrives in fast‑paced, multi‑market environments, and wants to make their mark by establishing world‑class financial processes across diverse markets.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control
- Ensure balance sheet reconciliation each month in accordance with group policy, conducting quarterly balance sheet reviews with the Finance Director, and ensuring remediations are actioned in a timely manner.
- Contribute to robust financial control frameworks that enhance cost control and improve income protection.
- Ensure adherence to group standards and accounting policies.
Critical Deadlines
- Month‑end close with trial balance completed no later than working day 4.
- All internal reporting, management packs, and supplementary reporting (e.g., daily sales, weekly debtors, TC&E spend).
- External reporting including group reporting, tax returns, statutory accounts, and audit support.
Forecasting & Analysis
- Delivery of commentary and analysis, ensuring all stakeholders understand the underlying performance of our business.
- Accurate and reliable mid‑month and day‑1 flash forecasts.
- Support quarterly reforecast and annual budget cycles, engaging with business leaders and FP&A teams as required.
Business Partnership
- Provide ad‑hoc support to Finance Director and FP&A, ensuring timely understanding of financial performance and position.
- Respond at short notice to analytical requests and support business development activities across the region.
- Build genuine partnerships across the business, providing both challenge and support to commercial thinking.
Leadership
- Contribute to the collaborative team environment focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Take ownership of finance processes, ensuring optimization and elimination/automation of non/low‑value work.
- Take responsibility for your deliverables.
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications:
- Qualified or near‑qualified accountant with strong experience in financial and management accounting.
- Expertise across different jurisdictions (Australia, Singapore, India, China, Japan highly beneficial).
- Exposure to the travel industry would be beneficial.
Technical Skills:
- Strong IFRS accounting knowledge with hands‑on experience in complex environments.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with BI tools; comfortable with large data sets and Excel‑based reporting.
- Process improvement experience with demonstrable track record of driving efficiency.
Personal Attributes:
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) are essential for stakeholder engagement; Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or Japanese would be beneficial but are not required.
- Common sense and pragmatic approach to problem‑solving in dynamic environments.
- Commercial acumen: the ability to recognise when there is a commercial opportunity or risk and respond accordingly.
- Hands‑on leadership style – flexible team player willing to support deliverables.
- Calm under pressure with ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong customer service orientation when working with internal and external stakeholders.
