A leading property development company in Malaysia is seeking a Legal Counsel to draft and negotiate various agreements. The role involves ensuring legal compliance, providing legal assistance in corporate projects, and handling intellectual property issues. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Law, with 1–3 years of relevant experience, and be proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including tenancy agreements, service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and corporate contracts.
Ensure all contracts comply with legal and regulatory requirements while safeguarding the company’s interests.
Corporate & Compliance Matters:
Provide legal assistance in various corporate projects, including development projects, corporate transactions, joint ventures, mergers, and acquisitions.
Liaise with regulatory authorities, external counsel, and company secretaries on corporate governance matters.
Intellectual Property and Compliance:
Handle licensing and intellectual property issues, including trademarks and licenses, and provide advice on protection and enforcement strategies.
Stay up to date on relevant laws and regulations to ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements.
Assist in managing disputes, tenant issues, and contractual claims, ensuring legal risks are mitigated.
Liaise with external counsel on litigation matters, including landlord-tenant disputes, commercial disputes, and regulatory proceedings.
Legal Advisory & Risk Management:
Provide legal opinions and risk assessments to internal stakeholders on business operations.
General Legal Support:
Maintain and organize legal documentation and records for compliance and reference purposes.
Assist in any special projects, tasks, or assignments as delegated by the Head of Department (HOD) from time to time.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution. Member of the Malaysian Bar (preferred but not mandatory).
1–3 years of post-qualification experience in legal practice and/or in‑house legal roles.
Prior experience in a public‑listed company or the real estate/property development industry is an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of contract law, corporate law, and property law.
Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical solutions to stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and Bahasa Malaysia.
High attention to detail with strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple assignments under tight deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research tools.
