Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and the officer shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.

The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part and parcel of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he, being an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/ Department.

The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.

The officer is also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu'allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

Key Responsibilities

• a.Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials,workshops, and seminars.
• b.Developing curricula and course material thatcan be used across a number of platforms.
• c.Collaborating with other academics and lecturersto improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
• d.Setting and grading assignments, tests, andexams.
• e.Conducting research, and writing papers,proposals, journal articles, and books.
• f.Attending and participating in meetings,conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
• g.Participating in training opportunities andinitiatives at the institution.
• h.Providing support to students and othercolleagues.
• i.Staying current by reading widely and producingpublished work in the field.
• j. Can function as trainee lecturer / surgicaltrainee / medical officer in Hospital SASMEC@IIUM.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery(M.B.B.S.) or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor ofSurgery (MBBCh) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)

Minimum Competencies

• Able to function as general specialist.

Language Qualifications

• Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
• IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.

Candidate without any of these qualification will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
