Lead, Strategy & Special Projects Team 1
Define and Execute Group Wide Strategies (including International Business):
Assist the head to perform strategic analysis and provide recommendations to drive the Group’s long-term strategy as well as any strategic GMC-level decisions, including:
- Numerical analyses: Developing financial models and business cases for management decision-making and feasibility studies
- Competitive benchmarking: Conducting market studies and benchmarking key financial and operating metrics against competitors and reviewing RHB’s financial and operational performance
- Presentation development: Preparing large sections of executive presentation decks and written material independently
- Communications materials: Preparing materials required for internal and external communications (e.g. investor relations)
Structures and performs analyses independently with only broad oversight from senior department members, including:
- Systematically breaks down complex problems
- Proactively suggests creative and useful analyses
- Gains insights from analysis and suggests logical conclusions
- Defines data collection approaches
- Gathers required data from the correct sources and stakeholders
- Reconciles ambiguous, conflicting and poor sources of data
- Analysis includes (but is not limited to) solving key questions related to group portfolio focus, growth strategy, customer strategy, pricing strategy, competitive strategy, distribution strategy, global footprint, market entry, M&A, technology investments, operating model, and workforce strategies
- The Lead is expected to work with stakeholders across the Group
Define and Execute Value Creation Initiatives and Special Projects (within or across business units / functions):
- Identify and define Execute improvement initiatives to create value within, or across business units and functions. Value created should be categorised as revenue uplift, cost reduction, process / speed improvement, or capability development, including:
- Define project scope, success criteria, timelines, resource needs, and risk mitigation plans.
- Coordinate workstreams across departments to ensure alignment, momentum, and timely delivery.
- Maintain project documentation, provide regular updates to leadership, and adjust plans based on real-time feedback or evolving business needs
- Track performance of projects against goals through dashboards, reporting tools, and regular performance reviews
- Make data-informed recommendations to optimize project outcomes and improve future execution
Board and Group Management Committee Engagement:
- As needed, assist the head with the development of GMC papers and Board papers on topics deemed relevant by the GCSIO, GMC, or Board members.
Competitor Benchmarking & Market Awareness:
- Expected to maintain an updated view on competitor strategies and RHB’s performance within the industry
Investor Relations and Shareholder Value Reporting:
- Expected to maintain a clear view of the Group’s Strategic imperatives and how they translate to value for our shareholders
- Expected to provide assistance in communicating RHB’s group strategy and performance to rating agencies, regulatory, and other external parties (as requested / guided by Group Investor Relations)
Drive first principles problem solving, business case modelling, and oral/written communication capability development within Group Strategy
Serve as a mentor to associates within Group Strategy, providing on‑job training with regards to:
- First Principles Problem Solving (Hypothesis Driven Analysis)
- Business Case Modelling using MS-Excel and other tools
- Financial Modelling and Valuation techniques
Analysis is scoped down to these for R6 PG. Analyses required would not be as broadbased as this. Focused on execution of the initiatives rather than identification/definition. Only insofar to execute the analyses required above. Left the more executional role in.
