Job summary

Novartis is seeking a Finance Intern in Malaysia to support master data management across Customer, Finance, and Controlling domains. You’ll help maintain SAP-driven master data, assist with GFMD projects, and guide users through data workflows to ensure accuracy and compliance.

The role emphasizes data quality, SOX-related controls, and collaboration with global/local teams. Pursue a business, economics, or finance degree and develop skills in Excel and enterprise systems.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Exposure to finance processes and academic knowledge in areas such as accounting, reporting, tax, treasury, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze and improve data quality and processes.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Creative thinking, eagerness to learn new technologies and frameworks, and a proactive mindset to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Improve the understanding of the impact of the master data and the relationship within other areas in the company
  • Processing all master data changes requested within the system of record (e.g. SAP), ensuring creation and maintenance of Customer and Finance Master Data Entities, attributes and hierarchies (Customer Master Data, Finance and Controlling Master Data including Intercompany, Internal Orders, WBS, Fixed assets), and any other data entity as defined by the Novartis Finance Core GFMD cycle
  • Support ad-hoc global/local projects that can help the improvement of the GFMD process Operations
  • Support business users and create guidelines to facilitate the navigation of Master Data Processes
  • Ensure that applicable policies, processes, and procedures are consistently applied through the master data management lifecycle
  • Proactively challenge the status quo and comes up with making fact-based recommendations to drive continuous improvement
  • Escalate data issues (process and/or technical) and conduct data impact assessments to ensure data quality is maintained to agreed standards
  • Ensure application of agreed Novartis control procedures and actively supports to deliver SOX certification

As a Finance Intern, you will have opportunity on managing and maintaining master data within systems like SAP, ensuring accuracy across Customer, Finance, and Controlling Master Data. You’ll support both global and local projects aimed at improving the Global Finance Master Data (GFMD) process, while also helping business users navigate master data workflows.
