Instructional designer for online modules isan educational professional who designs, develops, and delivers engaging and effective online learning experiences.Among the responsibilities are to analyze learning needs, create content, and implement strategies to help learners achieve their goals in a digital environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible to design, develop and maintain high quality Self-Instructional Materials (SIM) for IIC’s Open Distance Learning (ODL) and Micro-Credentials (MC) programmes.

  • 1. Needs Analysis

    Conducting thorough research:This involves gathering information about the learners, their existing knowledge and skills, the learning context, and the desired outcomes.

    Identifying learning gaps and objectives:Pinpointing areas that learners need to develop and setting clear goals for the instructional materials.

    Analysing the target audience:Understanding the learners' demographics, preferences, and learning styles to tailor the instruction accordingly.

  • 2. Content Development

    Creating engaging and informative content:Developing a variety of instructional materials, such as course outlines, modules, lessons, presentations, videos, interactive activities, and assessments.

    Writing clear and concise instructions:Ensuring that instructions are easy to follow and understand, catering to different learning styles.

    Incorporating multimedia elements:Utilising graphics, animations, simulations, and other media to enhance learning and engagement.

  • 3. Instructional Design

    Applying learning theories and models:Utilising established frameworks like the ADDIE model (Analyse, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) to structure the learning process.

    Designing learner-centred activities:Creating activities that actively engage learners, encourage critical thinking, and promote knowledge application.

    Developing assessments and feedback mechanisms:Designing formative and summative assessments to measure learner progress and provide constructive feedback.

    Selecting and utilising appropriate tools:Choosing learning management systems (LMS), authoring tools, multimedia software, and other technologies to create and deliver the instruction.

    Creating interactive and immersive learning experiences:Leveraging technology to enhance engagement and provide opportunities for practice and application.

    Staying up to date with EdTech trends:Continuously learning about new technologies and how they can be applied to improve instruction.

  • 5. Assessment and Evaluation

    Designing valid and reliable assessments:Creating assessments that accurately measure learner outcomes and align with the learning objectives.

    Analysing assessment data:Using data to identify areas where learners are struggling and modifying the instruction accordingly.

    Gathering feedback from learners and stakeholders:Soliciting feedback to continuously improve the effectiveness of the instructional materials.

    Working with subject matter experts (SMEs):Collaborating with experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the content.

    Coordinating with other team members:Working with graphic designers, multimedia developers, and other professionals to create high-quality instructional materials.

    Building relationships with stakeholders:Engaging with educators, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the instruction meets their needs and expectations.

  • 7. Perform other related duties as required.
