Job summary

A leading pathology laboratory in Petaling Jaya is seeking an HOD - Biochemistry to manage overall lab operations in compliance with ISO 15189:2012 standards. You will oversee staff performance, ensure quality documentation, and perform complex histological techniques. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Lab Technology or Biomedical Science and 5-7 years of experience, including 3 in a supervisory role. This position may require rotational shift work or on-call duties.

Job description

The HOD - Biochemistry will include managing overall lab operations in accordance with ISO 15189:2012 requirement; developing procedures to ensure safety, security, quality, and accuracy of results; designing and performing test procedures; analyzing requests for tests and equipment; tending to administrative and management matters; consulting with principal clients; and assisting in budgeting.

Job Responsibilities

• Ensure roster is prepared.
• Formally review staff performance on an annual basis.
• Continuously assess training and competency of staff.
• Ensure all processes and procedures comply with Quality Documentation and assist routine functions of the laboratory to ensure consistent service.
• Regularly liaise with the Regional Laboratory Manager, HODs and Core Lab Manager regarding process improvement.
• Ensure all corrective action taken with respect to testing processes is correctly and adequately documented.
• Perform and oversee complex histological techniques, including tissue embedding, sectioning, and specialized staining.
• Regularly monitor QC, calibration, instrument log book records to ensure compliance with SOPs, correct filing.
• Monitor arrival times of couriers, complete checking and filing of courier round sheets according to documented procedures.
• Report any deviation in writing to the Head of Department Logistics.
• Review courier rounds at least every 2 months and document recommendations to the courier supervisor or Head of Department Logistics on changes in scheduling/processes/procedures.

What we're looking for

• Minimum 5 to 7 years of working experience in a laboratory setting, with preferably at least 3 years in a supervisory position.
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Lab Technology, Biomedical Science, or any other related majors.
• Able to work on rotational shift / on-call duties if required.
• Phlebotomy skills is an added advantage.
