Job Summary
The Head Preschool Instructor is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising and instructing assigned preschool classes offered to children ages 3-5 by the Batavia Park District.
Essential Functions
- Supervise and instruct assigned preschool classes within budgeted guidelines.
- Plan quality classes that contain creativity, imagination and variety.
- Direct supervision of assistant preschool instructors and/or volunteers.
- Communicate class directions and instructions as well as both interoffice and external office communications clearly and professionally in written and oral manners.
- Assist in acquiring supplies, maintaining supply levels and keeping supply cabinets organized.
- Relay information from participants to direct supervisor.
- Supervise children with varying levels of ability from Pre K to Kindergarten levels.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Follow procedures in opening and locking classroom/building.
- Manage multiple tasks/activities at the same time.
- Communicate with parents and handle or refer all compliments, complaints, concerns and/ or needs.
- Keep medical record form on each child participant.
- Administer Park District approved disciplinary procedures when necessary.
- Administer First Aid when necessary.
- Represent the Park District in a positive and professional manner.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree with experience in teaching pre-school or related field.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR strongly desired or obtained within 6 months of employment and must be kept current.
- Record of ongoing participation in continuing education seminars and workshops is desirable.
- Must possess a positive, people oriented attitude along with an enthusiastic and creative personality.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and building evacuation.
- Knowledge and administration of Park District policies and procedures.
- Ability to deal with children and adults under stressful situations.
- Ability to control children within a classroom environment.
- Ability to work closely with co-workers and the general public.
- Ability to exhibit good problem solving skills and good judgment in keeping with the goals of the preschool programs.
- Ability to follow rules and directions and perform work activities as described.
- Ability to assist children and to respond quickly to their activities.
- Ability to plan multiple program responsibilities at the same time.
- Must be able to make correct and safe judgments under “normal” and highly stressful situations and circumstances.
- Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing environments.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 60 lbs.
- Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, feeling and walking.
- Ability to physically set up, take down and clean up classrooms.

Starting Hourly Rate: $20.00
