Head of Purchasing Malaysia

Objective of job
  • Lead a team of Procurement and other defined Expert Functions related to the procurement of services, production equipment and other production plant needs in order to achieve the goals of the DRX Group for Region Malaysia and aligned with related Procurement Asia Organization.
  • Identify and develop suppliers to cover regional and global demand of Draexlmaier Group, assure proper material supply of Malaysia plants and optimize the ratio of local supply.
  • Control the budget in his/her responsibility, Malaysia Procurement team building and development.
  • Assure the implementation of DRX procurement standard global process.
  • Optimize the cost of procured materials and services.
  • Manage all supplier-related main topics (escalation) regarding procurement and cross functional towards internal customers as “owner of the Supplier”.
Principle activities
  • Observe and analyze the procurement market of Malaysia, implement continuous observations of markets and competitors in the area of responsibility.
  • Develop and implement regional procurement/commodity strategy and align with global and regional procurement strategies.
  • Support the strategic planning of the department/unit by breaking down or developing the strategic planning for the group and region within a short or medium-range time frame.
  • Ensure compliance of procurement process executed within Malaysia, develop and optimize the procurement process/workflow if necessary.
  • Regularly report to Procurement Asia and Plant management about status of sourcings, supplier development and escalations.
  • Actively and continuously manage the Procurement Malaysia Team Members, provide support, develop knowledge and skills.
  • Provide disciplinary leadership to associates that report to him/her and make personal decisions with P-Asia Management, Plant Management and HR Department.
  • Plan and administer the budget in his/her area of responsibility, in cooperation with the supervisor and make sure there is compliance with it.
  • Cooperate in personnel planning within his/her area of responsibility in cooperation with the supervisor; employ qualified personnel.
Additional responsibilities
  • Participate in the elaboration of the commodity planning within the area of responsibility.
  • Lead or support the sourcing activities in the area of responsibility.
  • Establish and implement framework conditions for procurement activities in the area of responsibility, manage and develop the subordinates to be more competent with procurement work.
  • Manage the approval and development of new suppliers for regional requirements in accordance with related procedures.
  • Take the lead of sourcing process and present in Sourcing Committee.
  • Keep constant communication with DRX internal customers to ensure smooth information flow and quickest turn-around time.
  • Improve the cost of purchased materials, parts and services, e.g. initiate and drive cost reduction projects.
  • Reporting and budgeting according to company guidelines, set up challenging and workable KPIs and manage to realize the KPIs within Malaysia sites.
  • Support plant procurement/scheduler in the event of escalation, e.g. quality and/or delivery issues.
  • Integrate and implement the procurement activities of the DRX Group in the country and develop synergies.
  • Represent the procurement organization in the country.
  • Prepare and take part in related customer audits.
  • Comply with company EHS management rules, know the factory and work area environmental factors and hazards, perform the post responsibility what described in the safe production responsibility system.
Job requirements
Specialized knowledge / education
  • Bachelor’s degree or professional certification with more than five years of experience of strategic procurement from MNCs, automotive industries preferred (proficient in a technical, scientific or specialized field requiring an understanding of a body of theoretical knowledge).
  • Very proficient with indirect procurement processes and best practices when dealing with difficult situations like stakeholder conflicts, supplier claims.
  • Have a solid mindset regarding the cost models for different commodities, able to negotiate with the suppliers with solid cost facts.
  • Strong negotiation skillsets to achieve the best possible outcome for commercial terms and conditions.
Experience
  • 5+ years working experience in procurement department, preferably at an automotive related company.
  • 2+ years team lead to manage the different indirect commodities, including misc. service and production equipment etc.
  • Experience in team leadership.
