Overview

HEAD OF PRIMARY
TENBY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, PENANG

Job starts August 2026. Location: Penang, Malaysia. Contract type: Full Time. Contract term: Fixed Term.

Purpose of Role

To lead the International Primary School and its staff in delivering amazing learning and outstanding success for all students. To be a positive, reflective, and collaborative member of the campus leadership team, contributing to the campus-wide experiences of our students and our learning partnerships.

Tenby International School Penang is located in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, with a state-of-the-art STEAM Engine that brings Robotics, Virtual Reality, Music and Technologies into everyday learning. The school hosts two parallel educational streams: Tenby International School (International Primary Curriculum, the National Curriculum for England and IGCSE) and Sekolah Sri Tenby (Malaysian National Curriculum).

Our campus emphasizes a global perspective, pastoral care, after-school activities, and opportunities such as ILOS, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, and Model United Nations. We are part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP) and operate with the Learning.First approach.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Head of Primary School or senior leadership in a primary setting.
  • Inspire staff, students, and parents; nurture a safe and caring school ethos.
  • Oversee whole-school curriculum implementation, review, and design to deliver amazing learning opportunities and experiences for all students.
  • Collaborate with the campus leadership team for the benefit of all students and the wider community.
  • Lead safeguarding, safety, and wellbeing of students and staff; ensure awareness of policies and procedures including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Safer Recruitment.
  • Utilize data and professional insight to assure the effectiveness of school practice and outcomes.
  • Develop relationships based on integrity, honesty, and respect; promote inclusion and diversity.
  • Lead on professional development and stay abreast of latest thinking and technologies with strategic, pragmatic implementation.
  • Engage in whole-school curriculum implementation, review, and design to continue delivering excellent learning experiences.
  • Work with the wider campus leadership team to support the school and community.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience as Head of Primary School or senior leadership in a primary setting.
  • Experience in an international setting is advantageous but not essential; willingness to learn, respect for diversity, and openness to different experiences are important.
  • Qualified primary teacher with a relevant degree (essential). Leadership qualification (e.g., NPQH/NPQSL) or Master’s in Education (desirable).
  • Experience leading in a school following the UK National Curriculum with positive outcomes for students.
  • Experience in a multilingual environment and knowledge of EAL provision (desirable).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage staff, students, parents, and the wider school community.
  • Ability to lead and maintain a safe, positive school culture and ethos.
  • Ability to implement, monitor, and review clear practices that lead to successful outcomes; use data to support effectiveness of school practice.
  • Empower teachers to continually improve learning quality in classrooms.
  • Capability to lead whole-school curriculum implementation, review, and design.
  • Willingness to collaborate with the wider campus leadership team for the benefit of all students.
  • Strong relationships based on values of integrity, honesty, and respect.
  • Forward-thinking, adaptable to new thinking and technologies while remaining strategic and pragmatic.
  • Prioritizes safeguarding and safety of students and staff with knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
