Head of Power & Substation Engineering (Data Centre)
A leading hyperscale data centre developer, is seeking a seasoned HT Substation Specialist to lead the end-to-end design and strategy of high-voltage substation infrastructure for large-scale data centre developments across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership in the design, engineering, and delivery of 275kV, 132kV, 33kV, and 11kV substations to ensure grid reliability, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
- Oversee interconnection design with national grid systems, ensuring compliance with Grid Code, Bulk Supply Interconnection Standards, and Substation Design Standards in Malaysia.
- Direct and review the design of HT/MV substation layouts, power transformer configurations, and advanced protection schemes in line with IEC 61850, IEC 60076, IEC 62271, and IEC 61439 standards.
- Govern system study reviews, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and earthing analyses, ensuring performance and safety benchmarks are met.
- Drive design innovation aligned with renewable energy policies and energy transition roadmaps, integrating storage, microgrid, and demand-side management solutions.
- Collaborate closely with internal design teams, consultants, utilities, and regulatory bodies to deliver projects meeting five-nines availability, fault grading, and safety-in-design standards.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer (Electrical) with a valid practicing certificate.
- At least 15 years of experience in electrical design consultancy, including regional APAC exposure.
- Proven leadership in substation design, power system studies, and grid interconnection for mission-critical infrastructure (data centre, semiconductor, or utilities).
- Proficient in AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, CYME, and other relevant tools.
- Strong stakeholder management, technical governance, and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin.
