Head of Department (HOD) – Diploma in Manga Illustration

Nippon Designers School Malaysia College is seeking a passionate and experienced leader for the Diploma in Manga Illustration program. This is a unique opportunity to bring the spirit of Japanese design education to Malaysia and nurture the next generation of manga illustrators.

Responsibilities
  • Academic Operations Support: Assist in managing student-related affairs and ensure smooth academic operations.
  • Lecturing & Curriculum: Develop and deliver curriculum, conduct assessments, and manage courses.
  • School & Marketing Activities: Participate in trial classes, education fairs, and anime/game-related events. Support school events.
  • Academic Management: Oversee staff planning, examinations, portfolio reviews, graduation showcases, and student orientation.
  • Department Leadership: Manage curriculum development for Manga Illustration, staff recruitment, student counseling, performance monitoring, and academic crisis management.
  • Program Leadership (informal role): Restructure programs, remap course and learning outcomes, ensure curriculum aligns with industry standards, maintain accreditation and compliance (MQA), and liaise with stakeholders including part-time lecturers, industry advisors, and external partners.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Animation, Design, or a related field.
  • Experience in academic leadership, curriculum development, and student mentoring is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Japanese design education practices and the ability to contextualize them for Malaysia.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong natural leadership and organizational skills to plan and execute tasks by semester.
  • Budget planning and management for departmental operations and learning activities.
  • Excellent communication skills to work with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt Japanese educational practices to local objectives effectively.
