Leadership of High-Quality Teaching and Learning

Responsibilities
  • Leadership of high-quality teaching and learning in the curriculum area/s assigned;
  • Lead on professional development of staff in the curriculum area/s;
  • Ensure that teaching and learning practices are in line with best practice;
  • Lead professional learning with the curriculum area;
  • Lead on ensuring that differentiation occurs in teaching and learning;
  • Ensure that the learning environment is vibrant, engaging and facilitates learning; especially Art/DT/ICT displays around campus
  • Assessment and celebration of students’ work;
  • Leadership of curriculum planning, to ensure that it is documented and enables high quality teaching and learning;
  • Ensure that curriculum units are reviewed and reflected upon regularly;
  • Ensure that the curriculum is vertically aligned;
  • Ensure that the curriculum is horizontally aligned, and that there is collaboration with other departments;
  • Oversee the creation of subject rubrics that enable the vertical alignment of the curriculum;
  • Develop and maintain curriculum area resources, ensuring that all materials are accessible on a shared drive, and updated accordingly;
  • Ensure that teachers in the curriculum area share and collaborate on resource development;
  • Lead and facilitate subject area competitions and academic enrichment activities;
  • Leadership of High-Quality Assessment for Learning, which ensures that all students make good progress;
  • Ensure that subject rubrics enable students to understand how they can progress;
  • Collaboration to develop student led progress conferences with parents;
  • Ensure that reporting is completed on time and to a high standard;
  • Lead formative assessment practices in the curriculum area;
  • Ensure that assessments are valid, reliable and are aligned to learning in the unit of work;
  • Lead subject area moderation of assessments to ensure that assessment results are accurate and representative;
  • Ensure that Cat 4 and other data is available and used by teachers; clear evidence of use of data sent to line manager / SLT as required;
  • Lead pupil progress monitoring in collaboration with tutors, subject teachers and the Head of Secondary;
  • Maintain accurate and up to date data on pupil progress;
  • Collate and analyse exam data;
  • Administration and Organisation of the Curriculum Area;
  • Work with the Exams Officer to ensure that external exam entries are accurate and submitted on time;
  • Lead and develop curriculum area development plans;
  • Manage a budget and ensure that resources are efficiently allocated;
