Job summary

Samtec in Penang, Malaysia seeks a production planning supervisor to coordinate orders to meet the Manufacturing Due Date. You will batch orders to minimize changeovers, and work with shift supervisors to maintain on-time execution.

You will monitor progress, escalate risks, and drive continuous improvements across materials, downtime and lead time. Ideal candidates are data-driven with strong problem solving and leadership skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Schedule and plan production orders to meet Manufacturing Due Date (MDD).
• Batch orders to minimize changeovers without delaying due dates.
• Coordinate with shift supervisors to ensure plan execution.
• Monitor and drive orders to flow through processes on track for MDD.
• Escalate risks to Supervisor when orders may miss due dates.
• Coordinate material requirements and communicate with upstream planners.
• Drive on-time delivery improvements by resolving material, downtime or lead-time issues.
• Enter accurate reschedule codes and realistic dates for past due orders.
• Inform downstream departments about deviations to enable recovery actions.
• Use reports to manage large orders and meet the MDD.
• Support supervisor duties in absence (handover, traceability, expedites, dashboard).
• Pull in material within a 7-day window and update material comments per production plan.
• Print shop orders and organize material sessions per supervisor guidance.
• Create parcel IDs for parts moving to Sudden Saving.
• Follow up material arrivals with packing lists and prioritize on the floor.
• Regularly review metrics and initiate continuous improvement.
• Stop production of all non-conforming products.

Job description

1. Schedule and plan the order by using Scheduling Dashboard or any other equivalent tool to meet the MDD (Manufacturing Due Date) by ensuring the material, people and machine capacity availability.

2. Look for the opportunities to batch orders to minimize changeovers without compromising due dates.

3. Communicate and coordinate with other shift supervisors to ensure smooth execution according to the plan.

4. Monitor, manage and follow through (physically locate) on orders to ensure they flow through the processes and are on track to meet the MDD. Proactively work with relevant parties to address any potential issues to avoid any past due orders.

5. Report to Supervisor when there is any risk that an order may miss the due date.

6. Follow up with material planner or upstream process on material requirement for orders.

7. Drive OTD improvements to achieve the target by working with relevant parties to close the gap (example: material availability, machine downtime, insufficient lead time etc.).

8. Ensure correct reschedule code is entered together with realistic date for any order that is past due.

9. Inform appropriate departments especially the downstream process / work center of orders that deviate from the schedule so that opportunities of recovery can be explored.

10. Utilize reports to proactively manage large orders (example Daily Order Report and Pocket Report) to meet the MDD.

11. Assume supervisor responsibilities during the absence of the Supervisor including but not limited to: Pass down, order traceability, expedites, dashboard, and personnel management.

12. Responsible for pulling in material in a 7-day window or any other window set up by the Supervisor, updating material comments according to the production plan, (examples: reviewing PO transactions, shipment due dates, materials in transit), and expediting Planners when needed.

13. Responsible for printing shop orders and creating materials sessions, based on the window assigned by the supervisor.

14. Responsible for creating parcel ID’s for parts that go to Sudden Saving.

15. Responsible for following up material arrival with shipment packing list and prioritizing material needs on the production floor

16. Monitor and review metrics regularly; responsible to initiate and drive continuous improvement.

17. Stop the production of all non-conforming products.

Required Experience:

1. Strong in data analysis and is data driven.

2. Experience with Process knowledge for related area.

3. Excellent problem solving, investigation skills, and needs to be detail oriented.

4. People management and leadership skills.

5. Understand manufacturing concept, experience in lean and six sigma is preferred.

6. Must possess good communication skills – written & verbal.

7. Must be able to use Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)

8. Team player and must be able to work with multiple groups of people (Operators, Floor Managers, Engineers, etc.)

9. Must be able to sit/stand for at least 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.

10. Lifting Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.

11. Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions: Must be willing to adhere to department safety rules and regulations. May be exposed to noise (required to wear protective gear). May be exposed to Hazardous Materials & Chemicals (required to wear safety glasses and other protective gear).

Education:

1. High School diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent is preferred; not mandatory.
