Job description

Mosca, one of “Germany’s hidden champions”, offers the best available end‑of‑line packaging solutions. Headquartered in Germany and operating worldwide, we are a family‑owned company with almost 60 years of experience and reputation for quality and reliability in sophisticated, high‑end packaging machinery.

Malaysia is for 20 years our home to two manufacturing entities, making strapping machines and materials. We just moved to a new, much bigger facility, allowing us to assemble a range of more complex and customized machines. Malaysia is one of our three manufacturing centers of excellence and ships via our own sales subsidiaries worldwide. Quality at highest German standards is unified, global and uncompromising.

Our machines sit at the end of our customers’ manufacturing process. Our equipment forms the end of their process chain and functions at highest reliability to ensure smooth production and avoid costly downtime. Our customers’ finished product must be efficiently and functionally packed and secured for transport. Our innovative strength and pioneering spirit made us the technology leader in strapping and securing goods in transit.

Part of our big plans is to further expand the Malaysian segment of our global engineering team. Leading the step change in capabilities and capacity opens a rare career opportunity for a strategically thinking, innovative, forward‑looking and experienced professional.

Head of Engineering

Closely interlinked and as a respected contributor to group engineering in Headquarters, you oversee the design, development, and improvement of products with impact on supply chain and manufacturing processes. You align engineering strategy with business objectives to enhance product quality, reduce costs, and accelerate time‑to‑market. You report directly to the General Manager in Malaysia and divisionally to the Executive Group Vice President R&D and Engineering.

Responsibilities

Your technical responsibilities are:

  • Product Development Oversight: Lead engineering teams through the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to deployment based on the MOSCA milestone process.
  • Bill of Materials & Product Design Ownership: Take full responsibility for Bill of Materials and product design changes, ensuring smooth transfer to external suppliers and internal production.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure quality by design and oversee first article inspections for quality qualification and conduct factory acceptance tests.
  • Technical Documentation & Compliance: Ensure the creation and maintenance of technical documentation (SOPs), conduct design reviews, and support quality and compliance audits.
  • Supplier Engagement: Support technical discussions with suppliers of locally sourced parts to ensure quality, compatibility and compliance.
  • Analytical & Financial Acumen: Apply strong analytical skills and demonstrate experience in product cost management, budgeting and P&L management.

Your strategic and leadership remit is:

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with global senior leadership on engineering goals, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Innovation & Technology Leadership: Champion the adoption of new technologies and innovative practices within the engineering function.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure projects are released on schedule, within budget, and quality targets.
  • Team Management & Development: Manage and mentor engineers, fostering a high‑performance culture and supporting technical skill development.
  • Subsidiary Collaboration: Establish and maintain collaboration with colleagues around the world for product transfer, technical discussions, and sharing of best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive initiatives focused on cost optimization and process improvement.
Qualifications

  • At least 5 years in engineering leadership roles (team, project and budget) within high‑end machinery or heavy equipment manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of the product development lifecycle and manufacturing processes, preferably in the machinery industry.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (ideally Creo), PLM/PDM systems (ideally Windchill) and SAP or similar ERP software.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Excellent communication in English. In addition, German would be an advantage but not a must, you feel confident and comfortable in MNC organizations.
  • Stakeholder management skills, team player with a problem‑solving mindset.
Offer to you

Mosca committed to Malaysia, Johor, earlier than many others. Part of our loyal, highly qualified workforce is a growing team of Malaysians with engineering degrees from Germany. Our ambitions rival much bigger corporations, but with us, you get opportunities and responsibilities far earlier and greater. Demonstrate your experience and see it reflected in your salary, when you join and as you increase your contribution to engineering excellence of the Group, in Malaysia and globally. Relocation assistance for applicants based elsewhere in Malaysia, or Germany/Europe can be considered. Malaysia wants its foreign educated talent back. We offer them the opportunity to shine.
