Job summary

Prudential plc in Malaysia seeks an Engineering Lead to guide the technical direction of the team, maintain high software quality, and mentor engineers across platform engineering, design, and hands-on development.

You will define roadmaps, oversee CI/CD, testing, and release pipelines, and drive architectural decisions for scalable and reliable systems while staying current with best practices and driving innovation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• ~5 years within financial services.
• ~12 years of development experience with ~5 years in a senior engineering role.
• Strong experience leading full stack development.
• Good understanding of DevOps pipeline (CI/CD, containerisation, test automation, automated deployment).
• Good understanding of Agile principles.
• Risk, Compliance and Audit Domain Knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive technical vision, strategy and roadmap in alignment with organisational goals.
• Oversee technical aspects of initiatives including design, CI/CD, testing and release pipeline, deployment.
• Hand on design and implement application frameworks/platform and reusable functionality.
• Lead technical evaluation of vendor platforms.
• Drive business solutions and technical excellence with vendor and internal teams.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, including coding standards and DevOps.
• Make critical architectural decisions for scalability and reliability.
• Create and maintain architecture and high-level design docs.
• Drive solution approval with Group Solution Review Committee.
• Provide technical guidance to resolve challenging issues.
• Stay current with technologies and drive innovation through thought leadership.
• Lead automation, deployment and monitoring for high-quality releases.

Overview

We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinkingEngineering Lead who is responsible guiding the technical direction of the team, ensuring high standards of software quality and guiding technical team members to reach their potential. This role involves a mix of platform engineering and design, hand-on development, solution architecture and leadership responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

• Define and drive technical vision, strategy and roadmap in alignment with organisational goals.
• Oversee technical aspect of initiatives including system design, CI/CD, testing and release pipeline, deployment.
• Hand on responsibility to design and implement application frameworks/platform and common/reusable functionality.
• Lead technical evaluation of vendor platforms.
• Work with both vendor and internal delivery teams to drive business solutions and deliver technical excellence.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, including coding/implementation standards, testing and DevOps practices.
• Make critical architectural and technical decisions to ensure scalability, reliability and maintainability.
• Create and maintain architecture and high-level design documentation.
• Drive solution approval with Group Solution Review Committee.
• Provide technical guidance to resolve challenging technical issues.
• Stay current with technologies and best practices and drive innovation through technology thought leadership.
• Lead efforts in automation, deployment and monitoring to ensure efficient, high-quality releases.

Experience and Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• ~ 5 years of experience within financial services.
• ~ 12 years of experience in development and 5 years in a senior engineering role.
• Strong experience leading full stack development
• Good understanding of DevOps pipeline e.g. CI/CD, containerisation, test automation, automated deployment.
• Good understanding of Agile principles
• Risk, Compliance and Audit Domain Knowledge is a plus.

Technologies and Tools

• Deep understanding of end to end Application Technology Stack including:
• Experience in Cloud architecture (SaaS/PaaS/IaaS).
• Good understanding of DevOps pipelines
• Familiarity with Architecture/Design Diagramming tools
