Introduced in July 2018, Setel is a mobile platform that aims to delight customers by innovating for better, inclusive mobility. Setel serves customers across Malaysia by powering one app as the constant companion to ease motorists’ journey across fueling, parking, EV charging, motor insurance, road tax, auto assistance, general purchases, and more across an ecosystem of PETRONAS petrol stations, retail partners, and online merchants.

Role Purpose:

The Engineering Director, Core Delivery drives the overall product vision and strategy for the company, ensuring the delivery of innovative and market-leading mobile applications. Achieve this by leading cross-functional product teams, collaborating closely with executive leadership, aligning product development with company goals, and fostering a customer-centric culture to maintain the company’s competitive edge and growth trajectory.

In this role you will:

• Direct company wide software system / reliability / quality assurance by managing stages from ideation to launch and ongoing maintenance, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality products that meet customer needs, and incorporating feedback loops for iterative improvements.
• Drive initiatives across the reliability, scalability, cost optimisation, and security and compliance of the technology infrastructure by continuously assessing, upgrading, and implementing best practices, using specific frameworks or standards to support business growth and protect sensitive data.
• Build and lead high-performing engineering teams by recruiting top talent, providing mentorship, and fostering professional growth, with a focus on succession planning and long-term team development to create a collaborative and innovative work culture.
• Facilitate collaboration within product technology teams and across all departments by creating efficient cross-functional processes and ensuring effective communication, employing methods or tools to enhance collaboration and achieve shared goals.
• Drive assessment on technology risks by conducting proactive risk assessments, developing contingency plans, and ensuring regulatory and security compliance, using specific risk management frameworks or tools to protect the company from potential threats.
• Lead strategic vision for technology innovation by aligning the technology roadmap of initiatives with company goals and anticipating market trends, while defining and tracking OKRs to measure effectiveness and adjusting strategies based on outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.
• Manage budgets and allocate engineering resources, tools effectively by engaging in financial planning, cost control, cost-benefit analysis to maximise return on investment and ensure project success.

You're a great fit if you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; OR
• Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
• 14+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong focus on mobile, backend or fullstack development.
• 5+ years of experience in people management for software engineering at companies with large scale, high-volume mobile or web apps.
• Proven track record in managing large distributed teams and driving strategic initiatives.
• Strong bias for action with proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in overseeing software product lifecycle, quality and technology infrastructure.
• Experience in Agile methodologies and driving agile transformation within product or technology teams.
• Experience in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management.
• Proven ability to manage and develop people, driving a high-performance culture through clear expectations, regular feedback, and fostering collaboration.
• Strong background in DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Experience in risk management and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Skills in data-driven decision-making and performance measurement.
• Deep understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing, supporting and growing engineering teams cross-functionally.
