An electronics manufacturing firm in Kulai, Malaysia is looking for a Product Design Engineer to lead the development of innovative prototypes and manage the product development lifecycle. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2-3 years of experience in product development. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners, utilizing CAD tools to create designs and prototypes while ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role offers a dynamic environment to tackle real-world challenges and drive technological advancements.
Lead conceptual design from initial idea to fully developed prototype: Develop initial product concepts, create detailed design specifications, and iterate on designs using CAD software to ensure feasibility and innovation.
Manage prototyping processes: Coordinate the fabrication of prototypes, select materials and components, and oversee testing to validate design performance.
Manage Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA): Facilitate DFMEA sessions with cross-functional teams, identify potential design risks, and implement mitigation strategies to enhance product reliability.
Oversee buy part approval and supplier coordination: Evaluate and approve purchased components, conduct supplier audits, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
Support Joint Design Manufacturing (JDM) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) business activities: Collaborate with external partners on design integrations, review manufacturing processes, and provide technical guidance to align with project goals.
Provide solutions to design issues: Analyze and resolve engineering problems during development, propose optimized design modifications, and document resolutions for team reference.
Support verification and validation activities: Assist in planning and executing product tests, review test data, and confirm that designs meet regulatory and performance requirements.
Generate and manage Bill of Materials (BOM): Create comprehensive BOMs, update them based on design changes, and track costs to support efficient production planning.
Conduct Freedom to Operate (FTO) analyses to mitigate IP infringement risks: Perform thorough intellectual property assessments for new design concepts, reviewing patents, trademarks, and other IP rights to ensure compliance, identify potential conflicts, and recommend design modifications for unrestricted commercialization.
Collaborate with external partners for innovative concept development: Engage with design houses, startups, research institutes, and other external entities to co-create and integrate novel concepts, fostering innovation through joint ideation, prototyping, and knowledge exchange.

2 to 3 years product development experience, Senior level will be min 4 years
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
Solid understanding of product development lifecycle, including CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks or NX), materials science, and assembly processes.
Familiarity with DFMEA methodologies, prototyping techniques, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO or RoHS).
Awareness of JDM/ODM models and supply chain management principles.
Good knowledge in tolerance stack, GD&T, Plastic moulding, metal stamping, machining and 3D printing technology.
Possess ISO13485 will be a plus.
Proficiency in generating and managing BOMs using software like Excel or ERP systems.
Strong problem-solving skills to address design issues through analytical methods and simulations.
Ability to lead and conduct simple verification and validation testing, including data analysis and reporting.
Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
