Western Digital in Malaysia is seeking an Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering to plan and coordinate sputter system activities, ensure process compliance, and troubleshoot issues to improve utilization, yield, and quality.

You will lead Sputter Process Improvement Projects, supervise and train technicians and engineering specialists, and drive documentation, audits, and cross-functional collaboration to sustain high-performance manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics-related field required.
  • Minimum 2 years of sputter process engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of metrology principles and industry standards (ISO, ASTM).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate sputter system start-up/conversion activities and documentation.
  • Audit sputter parameters and ensure online SPC and procedure conformance.
  • Lead sputter process improvement projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH).
  • Supervise and coach/train process techs and SEs; share knowledge with team.
  • Ensure safety, health rules and adherence to procedures.

To lead sputter process-related issues troubleshooting (common causes), work closely with the shift process team in sputter process sustaining, troubleshooting & improvement to achieve sputter utilization (downtime), yield & quality goals. To initiate and lead Sputter Process Improvement Projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH & others), which include new products/machines/process qualification. To lead, supervise, and coach/train process tech & SE, including engineering specialists and characterize technicians. Responsible for leading junior engineers in sputter process-related issues troubleshooting (common causes), working closely with the Shift process team in sputter process sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement to achieve sputter utilization (downtime) & quality goals. Responsible for leading, coaching/training process techs & new SEs, including engineering specialists and characterize technicians. Responsible for training and sharing the PMR/DS sputter process and yield improvement knowledge with the team. Responsible for leading junior engineers in sputter parameters monitoring, including online SPC monitoring and procedure conformance. Responsible for leading junior engineers in sputter machine start-up, including process characterization (new products & process changes). Responsible for leading junior engineers in new products/machines/process qualification. Responsible for long-term improvement projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH & others). Others include FMEA. Understand and accept responsibility for performing jobs safely Follow safety and health rules Responsible for leading junior engineers in sputter yield-related issues troubleshooting (common causes). Work closely with sputter yield team in sputter yield sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement in order to achieve the sputter yield goal. This includes 0725 Operation Yield Improvement. The other supervisor assigned tasks. REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Materials/Mechanical/Chemical/Electrical/Electronic Engineering/Physic. Master's degree preferred. PREFERRED: Minimum 2 years of experience in sputter process engineering, preferably in the semiconductor or electronics manufacturing industry.
