Why does this job exist and why is it critical?

You will be the key person to advise on industrial related matters including but not limited to counselling and disciplinary matters, termination, grievances, investigations, and employment legislation. This role will contribute to the maintenance, development and implementation of policies and procedures, in alignment with current Malaysian legislation and industry best practice. Works with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the business adopts an effective approach in engaging staff on matters in relations to industrial relations(IR).

Summary

As the key advisor on industrial relations, you will manage a broad spectrum of IR matters – from counseling and disciplinary actions to investigations, grievances, terminations and legislative compliance. You will collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to develop and implement policies that align with Malaysian law and industry best practice.

What are you accountable for?

Manage IR matters such as comprehensive planning in resolving company‑wide disciplinary matters – including conducting investigations and holding domestic inquiries. Provide support, guidance and recommendations to the business process labour disputes and grievances in a proper and timely manner. Monitor and ensure company‑wide compliance by educating managers on a range of employment laws topics to ensure legal compliance.

Project manage the Maxis Code of Business Practice such as review of the code in ensuring that it is in line with company’s initiatives and aspiration. Manage the annual employee acknowledgement exercise and ensure compliance of the Code by the employees.

Create and initiate awareness sessions/ organize awareness programs.

Maintain cordial relationship with government authorities i.e. labour office, IR department, external counsels, government authorities, etc.

Member of Defalcation Committee on staff related issues.

Risk Management – assess and identify the potential risks that may hinder the reputation of the company and financial loss.

Preventive education and process enhancement to fix current gaps and loopholes which includes best practice sharing to employees in town halls, employee engagement opportunities by updating the latest policies adopted by forward leaning companies that Maxis aspires to be and keeping Maxis abreast with the latest in this field.

What do you need to have for this role?
  • Bachelor's Degree specialized in Human Resources and Labour Law.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in IR matters.
  • Familiar with IR, Employment Acts, Labour Laws and counselling and coaching.
