Job summary

Sapphire Stream Technology in Bayan Lepas, Penang, is seeking low- to mid-level embedded developers with a Linux background. The role involves designing and developing embedded software for two-way radios, participating in the full SDLC, and collaborating across hardware, test, and software teams.

Proficiency in C/C++/C#, RTOS, and BSP/device drivers is required. The candidate will also help write clean code, perform reviews, run tests, and optimize performance while adhering to agile practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunications/Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• Proficiency in C/C++/C# and OOP principles.
• 3–7 years of experience in software development preferred.
• Strong Linux background for embedded systems.
• Experience with board bring-up, BSP, device drivers, bootloader, memory management, and hardware/software integration.
• Hands-on RTOS and embedded software development experience.
• Familiarity with AI-based coding tools (e.g., CoPilot).
• Open to occasional short-notice work as needed.

Job description

• Design and develop new products and software features for two-way radios.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), covering requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Analyze software requirements to assess feasibility, considering quality, performance, time, and budget constraints.
• Collaborate with front-end architects, hardware engineers, test engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure optimal feature implementation and integration.
• Write clean, well-documented, and testable C/C++ code for embedded systems, adhering to coding standards and best practices.
• Conduct and participate in design and code reviews to maintain high code quality.
• Develop and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests.
• Debug and troubleshoot software issues in embedded systems using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Collect and analyze data to monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Contribute to team performance goals and adhere to quality metrics.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

• We are looking for people who are low- to mid-level embedded developers with a Linux background
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunications/Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• Preferably 3–7 years of experience in software development.
• Proficiency in C/C++/C# programming and a solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
• Understanding of microcontroller operation in embedded systems.
• Experience with board bring-up, BSP, device drivers, bootloader, device tree, memory management, SPI, I2C, UART, toolchains, compilers, and hardware-software integration.
• System debugging and analytical skills.
• Hands-on experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and embedded software development.
• Familiarity with AI-based coding tools (e.g., CoPilot).
• Knowledge of LTE/DMR specifications is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies is a plus.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functional teams.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Flexibility to accommodate occasional short-notice work arrangements based on project/business needs.
• This role is based onsite in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
