Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Electrical Engineer based in Kuching. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems, ensuring they meet safety standards, electrical codes, and project specifications. They also oversee the installation and testing of these systems includes, but not limited to:

  1. Knowledge Demonstrates good knowledge of electrical engineering works, the requirements of the Act and relevant regulations such as Sarawak Electricity Rules 1999, Electricity Ordinance (Cap. 50), Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (OSHA), and other applicable safety standards.
  2. Designing electrical systems Develop detailed electrical designs for various systems like power distribution, lighting, substations and emergency power, including calculations, schematics, drawings, and specifications.
  3. Implementation and monitoring – Supervising and overseeing the installation of electrical systems on-site, ensuring they meet quality standards, safety regulations, and project requirements.
  4. Compliance and regulations – Ensuring all electrical work complies with relevant building codes, electrical codes, and safety regulations.
  5. Problem solving and troubleshooting – Analysing electrical system issues, developing solutions, and resolving problems that may arise during the project.
  6. Collaboration – Working with other engineers, architects, project managers, and contractors to coordinate electrical installations and ensure seamless project delivery. Liaise with relevant authorities on inspections, shutdowns, approvals, and reports.
  7. Documentation and records – Maintaining detailed records of electrical designs, installations, and testing, as well as providing technical support and guidance to the team.
  8. Safety – Ensuring the safety of workers and the public by implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures on the construction site.
  9. Quality Assurance – Performing quality assurance testing to verify the functionality and safety of electrical systems. Participate in site audits and inspections by regulatory bodies and prepare necessary documentation or corrective actions.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent field.
  2. Five (5) years and above working experience in electrical engineering works, handling and operating relevant electrical equipment.
  3. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suites and other engineering related software (i.e. AutoCAD Electrical)
Competency requirement
  1. Professional Engineer in electrical engineering registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967;
  2. Preferably Certificate of Competency managing up to 275kV electrical works issued by Electrical Inspectorate Unit (EIU) Sarawak; and/or
  3. Registered Electrical Energy Manager with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST); and/or
  4. Registered as GCPV and/or OGPV system designer recognised by SEDA; and/or
  5. any other qualification handling medium to high voltage electrical works recognized by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) and Electrical Inspectorate Unit (EIU) under MUT Sarawak.
