Job Description Summary

With minimal supervision, this position performs varied and integral technical tasks within the EHS department. This role requires in-depth knowledge of facility manufacturing operations, corporate policies, and procedures as well as technical topics relevant to the site. It partners with frontline associates and plant leadership to implement EHS goals and initiatives, reduce injuries, and create a positive safety culture. The role ensures compliance with quality systems, company policies, best practices, and all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations. Regular, punctual attendance is essential. The employee must uphold BD Values.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute EHS tasks such as risk assessments across ergonomic, machine, area, and task-based categories, area hazard monitoring (noise monitoring), and medical surveillance tasks in coordination with occupational health.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of ergonomics, machine safety, maintenance, production, or process safety in an EHS setting.
  • Actively participate in technical EHS tasks: MOC reviews, machine risk assessments, maintenance safety reviews, Permit to Work / Safe Work Permitting Process.
  • Lead the roll‑out of the EHS component in BD Excellence.
  • Conduct incident investigations and drive corrective and preventative actions to completion.
  • Lead relevant technical EHS trainings with associates and update training materials as needed.
  • Develop good working relationships with all associates and supervisors to encourage sharing of EHS concerns.
  • Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including hazardous waste regulations.
  • Report safety, environment, and health incidents to superior when they occur.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary legal certifications required for EHS business needs.
  • Perform other duties as required to support business needs.
Education and Experience
  • Diploma or minimum certificate in any engineering/technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years’ experience/exposure in EHS.
  • Basic knowledge/experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Hazard Operability Study (HAZOP) is an advantage.

  • Support on‑site visits with EHS regulators and auditors.
  • Serve the Safety Committee.
  • Execute and track controlled document revisions for safety documents.
  • Audit safety procedures and JSAs; support creation of procedures to incorporate EHS needs.
  • Perform housekeeping and facility audits to ensure inspections.
  • Develop understanding of necessary rules and legal EH&S compliance; provide supervisors with input on pertinent changes as necessary; attend safety training seminars.
