The Sunway Centre for Planetary Health aims to be a leading independent organisation dedicated to supporting and advancing planetary health as a holistic and transformative paradigm for the health of human civilisation and the state of the natural systems on which it depends.

A core component of the Centre’s work is communicating the significance and importance of the planetary health agenda to stakeholders at national, regional and international levels and in forging partnerships with like‑minded entities and individuals as well as developing relations with organisations to further planetary health ambitions.

The Adviser will support and advise the management team on its regional and international communications and partnerships issues, oversee the development and maintenance of the Centre’s communications strategy and plans and support the Executive Director on the development of key domestic, regional and international partnerships, including partnerships designed to leverage additional resources for the Centre and with international multilateral agencies, programmes and funds such as the United Nations, International Financial Institutions and others.

Scope of Work
  • Support and advise the Executive Director and management team on the implementation of the relevant elements of the agreed Centre for Planetary Health Strategy and the Centre’s Communications Strategy.
  • Support the Executive Director in, and where required, lead engagement with the Centre’s broad range of international, regional and national partners and stakeholders through the development of the Centre’s network, and articulation and broadcasting of the Centre’s key messages.
  • Oversee the organisation and management of the Centre’s public‑facing events (webinars, meetings, conferences etc.) including through establishing a quarterly events schedule.
  • Oversee and advise on the Centre’s media and social media profiles.
  • Act as adviser to the Centre’s management team and Advisory Group on communications and partnership issues, developing, where needed, think pieces and policy papers aligned with the Centre’s engagement strategy.
  • Ensure key international engagement opportunities and forums are identified and that the Centre is adequately prepared to engage in a systematic, structured and forward‑leaning manner.
  • Oversee the Centre’s relationship with the media and, where needed/delegated by the Executive Director, act as spokesperson for the Centre.
  • Support the Executive Director on the development and implementation of the Centre’s fundraising strategy.
  • Represent the Centre at events in the region and beyond when called upon to do so.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Commitment to the values, vision, mission and objectives of the Centre.
  • Master’s degree in social science.
  • At least 20 years of experience and engagement with the international humanitarian and/or development system, in a senior management position and with a focus on communications and partnerships development.
  • Possesses a wide range of skills, including leadership, management and teamwork; communication (verbal and written) and diplomacy; problem solving and critical thinking, among others.
  • Extensive network with stakeholders in the Asia Pacific region and at the global level including UN agencies and the non‑governmental sector, regional organisations, universities, research institutes, think tanks, media and social media entities and civil society organisations.
