IHT REHABILITATION CENTRE SDN BHD in Sabah seeks a senior Medical Director to provide clinical leadership across rehabilitation services, ensure regulatory compliance, and oversee day-to-day operations.

You will lead medical staff, coordinate care pathways, drive quality initiatives, manage budgets, and foster collaboration with therapists, nurses, and administrators to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred rehabilitation.

Job description

Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of all rehabilitation services modalities.

Develops leadership within the facility to assist in the day-to-day operations.

Maintains efficient and effective clinical operations while adhering to relevant international and local regulatory laws and bylaws, standards and protocols.

Participates in committees to improve the quality of medical care.

Provides medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of affordable high quality rehabilitation services.

Meets regularly with medical leaders in rehabilitation services to discuss adherence to quality initiatives, departmental budget, HR plans and any cross-departmental issues.

Ensures comprehensive documentation in the Medical Records to accurately reflect the patient’s diagnosis and treatment to enable good clinical practice and efficient and accurate patient billing.

Develops the strategy for and implementation of innovative clinical/rehabilitation programs, which includes but is not limited to collaboration with strategic partners.

Technical

Develops comprehensive plans for post-acute and long-term rehabilitation including therapeutic exercise; speech and occupational therapy; counselling; cognitive retraining; patient, family or caregiver education and community reintegration.

Reviews cases referred for treatment.

Facilitates streamlined internal and external referral processes for patients transferring from acute care.

Serves as a liaison between administration, patients, other physicians, and healthcare providers.

Develops staff rosters, work assignments, clinic on-call and vacation schedules.

Coordinates physical medicine and rehabilitation services with other medical activities.

Actively participates in weekly case conferences.

Quality & Safety

Ability to take initiative and lead a team of highly qualified Medical, Technical and Supervisory level staff.

Works with senior Rehabilitation team to prepare reports regarding rehabilitation services,i.e., utilization, performance improvement, service data, outcome data, productivity, including long term capital budget and short-term operation budget.

Participates in quality management activities as required and at a personal level of accountability,i.e. accreditation process.

Monitoring clinical performance against the MSA contractually agreed 12 KPI’s and reviews annual performance reports and facility statistics.

Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost and social impact when developing and implementing practice innovations.

Drives the facility’s Quality and Audit Programs and evaluates the impact of new practices.

Education

Fosters a culture of learning, development, and continuous improvement across the facility by:

Promoting and assisting in the instruction, guidance, and supervision of junior medical/allied health staff

Facilitating the provision of essential training relevant to medical staff in the respective specialty and sub-specialty

Showing commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME)

Promotes and participates in clinical research and publications (where appropriate)

Actively participates in staff development activities consistent with service delivery and individual learning goals.

Oversees the development of and provides continuous monitoring of the creation and execution of Rehabilitation programs, quality assurance and development activities, policy and procedures and other relevant documents.

Complying with Policies, Procedures and Practices of the hospital and other Regulatory Requirements

Implements appropriate policies and procedures to achieve the facilities goals and objectives in pursuit of Best Quality Standards of Care, Quality / Performance Improvement.

Consults or coordinates with other rehabilitative professionals including physical and occupational therapists, rehabilitation nurses, speech pathologists, neuropsychologists, behavioral psychologists, social workers, or medical technicians.

Leads the formulation of Quality Assurance programs in line with MSQH/JCI/other relevant accreditation body requirements and the strategic direction of the facility.

Maintaining Confidentiality

Maintains patients’ confidentiality and protects hospital operations by keeping all critical information confidential.

Maintains confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of this position, in accordance with the facility’s policy.

Ensures all allied health staff maintain confidentiality regarding patient/staff information.

Ensures services are provided in accordance with local Malaysian data protection standards such as the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Promoting Customer Service Standards

Maintains a good working relationship across all departments within the facility ensuring a focus on customer care and service quality.

Functions as a clinical resource to all staff and acts as liaison with other disciplines, departments, and facilities/hospitals.

Promotes positive public relations with patients, peers, medical staff, stakeholders, the general public.

Collaborates with personnel from non-clinical department/disciplines regarding issues that may negatively impact patient care; facilitates solutions as needed.

Adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety, Materials Management and Maintenance Standards

Maintains a positive work environment for staff and promotes team efforts, promotes and maintains effective working relationships with all levels of staff.

Adheres to requirements of the facility’s Occupational Health, Patient Safety and Infection Control policies and guidelines.

Assists the PIC and General Manager in developing and implementing Emergency Preparedness/Disaster, Recovery Programs.

Performs other tasks assigned within the scope of his / her work and the level of his/her competence as required by the Management.

Ensuring Personal Effectiveness

Is emotionally self-aware, practices self-control, is able to empathetically interact and understand the team and their needs and demonstrates effective management of relations as well as conflict management, to ensure overall team success and best patient care outcomes.

Acts as a role model for all staff.

Maintains a personal record of continuing education Demonstrates evidence of ongoing professional development in leadership and management.

Actively participates in the annual system of staff performance evaluation and review.

Demonstrates ability to assess business needs, design and implement programs and evaluate results.

Ensures knowledge of contemporary best practice rehabilitation treatment is kept up-to date.

Ensures participation and completion of continuous medical education programs.
