Job description

The clerk of works (COW) is responsible for ensuring that construction work meets the Consultants’ specifications and standards.

Their duties include:

Quality inspection : Overseeing the work on-site to ensure it is carried out to the desired quality pursuant to the drawings and specifications

Material quality checking : Measuring and “quality checking” building materials

Defect identification : Identifying defects, report and suggesting ways to correct them

Progress monitoring : Monitoring the progress of the work and reporting

Record keeping : Keeping details records of the work

Liaison : Liaising with contractors, engineers and surveyors

Compliance : Checking that building regulations, health and safety, legal and ecological requirements are met

Site Meetings : Attendance and taking notes for action
