Job Summary

The Engineer (Structural & Bamboo Systems) will lead the structural engineering aspects of SEAD’s bamboo supply, prefabrication, and construction operations. This role requires both technical competence and practical implementation experience across the design, material engineering, prefabrication, and on-site construction lifecycle. The position is based in Ipoh, working closely with SEAD’s management, technical teams, and partners to deliver sustainable building and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of bamboo-based and eco-construction projects, including residential, commercial, and community developments.
• Develop, refine, and implement bamboo structural systems suited for Malaysia’s climate and regulatory standards.
• Oversee prefabrication processes: fabrication workflows, quality control, pre-assembly checks, transport, and site delivery.
• Supervise on-site installation and erection of bamboo structures, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with specifications.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to internal teams, collaborating with designers, craftsmen, and material specialists.
• Lead R&D initiatives to evaluate new bamboo species, treatment methods, and connection technologies for performance improvement.
• Ensure quality assurance, health, and safety standards are upheld during all construction phases.
• Coordinate with project management and operations teams to align structural deliverables with budgets, schedules, and company goals.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, reports, inspection records, and as-built files.
• Liaise with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and authorities (e.g., PBT, CIDB) for submissions and compliance.
• Support project planning, material estimation, and cost control.
• Perform additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned, supporting SEAD’s broader operational and development objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in sustainable or eco-construction projects.
• Registration with BEM (Board of Engineers Malaysia) is an advantage.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or equivalent design software.
• Strong understanding of local building codes, construction practices, and regulatory submission processes.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt to dynamic environments.
• Good communication skills in English Bahasa Malaysia; Mandarin proficiency is an added advantage.
• Willing to travel to project sites and collaborate with field and workshop teams.
