Job summary

KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to support the cardiac catheterization laboratory and related services. You will work under the Unit Manager to ensure high-quality care before, during, and after procedures, with emphasis on patient safety and teamwork.

The role requires ongoing professional development, documentation accuracy, and adherence to hospital policies across safety, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Registered with Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to nursing care vision, mission, goals and perform shift duties as assigned by Unit Manager.
• Notify the unit manager of changes that could impact standards of care.
• Collaborate with Unit Manager to ensure smooth operation of the cardiac catheterization laboratory and CSSS.
• Collaborate with ward staff to ensure patients arrive on time for procedures.
• Accompany patients into catheterization rooms and recovery area safely; record cases.
• Prepare the catheterization lab for daily procedures, check equipment, and prep trolleys and standby items.
• Adhere to Patient Safety Goals; Save Surgery Save Live.
• Identify patients accurately, prepare them for procedures, and refer to cardiologist when necessary.
• Collaborate with Cardiologist and other doctors to discuss procedure approaches and patient care preferences.
• Provide comprehensive cardiac care, patient education and counseling; care before, during and after treatment.
• Participate in patient and family health education and hospital activities.
• Communicate clearly, compassionately and culturally sensitively with patients.
• Collaborate with unit manager in administration, setting care standards, and duties when absent.
• Charge accurately for equipment and consumables and verify completeness.
• Inspect and document sterile packs supply and maintain unit stock from CSSS.
• Accountable for personal and professional growth; maintain mandatory learning hours.
• Execute continuous professional development through competency evaluations and 3-yearly privileges.
• Coordinate clinical training and bed management with consultants for efficient resource usage.
• Participate in nursing process development and documentation; contribute to quality improvement.
• Deployment to Operation Theatre, Endoscopy, Special Procedure Diagnostics, Minor Procedure, Health Screening Centre and Accident & Emergency.
• Review and revise nursing policies and procedures; promote best practices and continuous improvement.
• Inspect psychotropic drugs with the previous shift’s nurse in charge and adhere to hospital policies.
• Check daily and audit resuscitation trolley; promote infection prevention and control.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient personal and medical history.
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment; guide new staff and maintain accurate records.
• Coordinate equipment, supplies, consumables and drugs; ensure proper function per PPM schedule.
• Notify biomedical staff of faulty equipment and assist in equipment maintenance.
• Participate in quarterly stock counts with finance staff.
