Job summary

A well-known hotel in Kuala Lumpur is seeking an attentive team member to greet guests and take food and beverage orders. Qualifications

Responsibilities
  • Greet and welcome all guests and take beverage and food orders in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Be attentive to guests’ needs.
  • Prepare and serve beverages such as drip coffee, espresso-based drinks, tea and other specialty drinks.
  • Prepare food for service to guests and present food according to established health and presentation standards.
  • Monitor guest behavior and alcohol consumption to determine when service should cease; notify management of incidents and check identification when age is questionable.
  • Clear and clean tables in a prompt and efficient manner and wipe down tables, chairs, walls, windows, mirrors and floors as necessary.
  • Track and order inventory for café and beverage supplies such as coffee beans, milk, napkins and cups.
  • Perform department/outlet opening or closing duties; maintain espresso machines, grinders, coffee machines and other equipment by cleaning, troubleshooting and scheduling repairs.
  • Follow hotel safety protocols and procedures at all times. Report any safety/service incidents immediately to the Supervisor or Manager on duty.
  • Take action to solve guest problems/complaints and use established guidelines for any service recovery to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Work as a team and communicate and co‑ordinate with other departments to ensure excellent quality and service.
  • May receive guest payments and process transactions as outlined in the cash and charge procedures.
  • May assist with other duties as assigned.
Accountability
  • Completion of daily operational tasks.
  • Key metrics – as defined by the hotel.
Qualifications
  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Food service experience with general knowledge of restaurant operations preferred.
  • Basic coffee knowledge (e.g., how to prepare common coffee beverages); advanced knowledge (roasting, grinding, sourcing, flavor differences) can be helpful.
  • Must be at the minimum age to serve alcohol in line with local legislative requirements.
