Job summary

A leading electronics manufacturing firm based in Penang is seeking an Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) Engineer to program and maintain AOI machines for PCB/PCBA inspection. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and 2–5 years of hands-on experience with AOI systems. Qualifications

Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) Engineer

Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, and maintain AOI machines for PCB/PCBA inspection
  • Develop and optimize AOI inspection programs for new product introduction (NPI)
  • Analyze AOI results to identify defect trends and root causes
  • Reduce false calls while maintaining high defect detection rates
  • Work with Process, Quality, and Production teams to resolve inspection issues
  • Support first article inspection (FAI) and engineering change implementation
  • Perform regular AOI machine calibration, maintenance, and verification
  • Create and maintain AOI documentation, work instructions, and inspection standards
  • Provide technical support and training to operators and technicians
  • Assist in continuous improvement and yield enhancement activities
Requirements
  • At least Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience working with AOI systems in electronics manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience with AOI platforms (e.g. Koh Young, Mirtec, Omron, CyberOptics, Saki, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of PCB/PCBA processes, SMT, and electronic components
  • Experience in SMT process optimization
  • Knowledge of SPC, Six Sigma, or Lean Manufacturing
  • Familiarity with MES and quality data analysis tools
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, BOMs, and Gerber files
  • Knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721) will be an added advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Must be able to work in manufacturing / cleanroom environment
  • May require shift work or on-call support during production ramps
