Assistant Manager, Finance & Accounts

The Assistant Manager plays a critical role in managing and overseeing financial and accounting functions, ensuring compliance with company policies, statutory regulations, and international accounting standards. This role involves strategic financial planning, managing accounts, and providing insights to improve financial efficiency and profitability.

Accountabilities
  • Financial & Accounting Operations Oversee and manage daily accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger activities. Ensure timely preparation and submission of comprehensive financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow Statements). Review and approve financial documents such as debit/credit notes, invoices, and payment vouchers before submission to the Department Head. Monitor intercompany transactions and reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records. Supervise bank reconciliations, loan management, and cash flow planning to ensure adequate funding for business operations.
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting Conduct detailed variance analysis and monitor financial performance against budget and forecasts. Identify and implement cost control strategies to improve financial efficiency. Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on financial reports and market trends.
  • Taxation & Compliance Ensure accurate tax computations and timely tax filings (corporate tax, deferred tax, withholding tax). Track monthly income tax instalments and ensure regulatory compliance. Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimise tax benefits. Support tax team for E‑invoice and transfer pricing documentation compliance.
  • Audit & Internal Controls Lead and coordinate with auditors in quarterly and annual financial audits, preparing necessary documents. Implement and maintain robust internal financial controls to prevent discrepancies and fraud. Ensure compliance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and company policies.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting Lead budget preparation and financial forecasting to align with corporate objectives. Prepare and revise annual budgets and monitor monthly profit & loss forecasts. Coordinate with various departments to ensure accurate financial data for budgeting.
  • Lead, guide, and mentor junior finance team members, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in financial processes. Provide training on financial best practices and regulatory changes. Act as a liaison between finance, operations, and senior management to support business strategies.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) is highly advantageous.
  • Over 7 years of experience in finance/accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or corporate finance setting.
  • Extensive experience in budgeting, taxation, and financial reporting.
  • In‑depth knowledge of financial and accounting principles, including IFRS, MFRS, and taxation.
  • Proficiency in SAP or other ERP accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities for team management and training.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • High integrity and confidentiality in managing financial data.
Decision‑Making Authority
  • Authority to review and approve financial transactions, including vendor payments, intercompany charges, and reconciliations, before submission to the Department Head.
  • Provide strategic recommendations on cost‑saving measures, tax planning, and budget optimisation.
  • Assist in fund allocation decisions for operational expenses and short‑term investments.
  • Propose enhancements to internal financial controls and risk management policies.
Challenges & Working Environment
  • Strict reporting deadlines: Ensure timely submission of financial reports to the Holding Company and regulatory bodies.
  • Regulatory compliance: Stay updated with changes in tax regulations, accounting standards (MFRS/IFRS), and financial reporting requirements.
  • Cross‑department collaboration: Work closely with procurement, sales, and operations teams to maintain accurate financial data.
  • Handling multi‑company accounts: Manage financial operations for multiple business units, ensuring proper consolidation and intercompany accounting.
  • High attention to detail: Identify discrepancies in accounts, conduct reconciliations, and maintain accuracy in financial statements.
Interaction & Communication
  • Internal Departments: Collaborate with Sales, SCM, Operations, and Senior Management for financial analysis, budgeting, and cost control.
  • External Parties:
    • Auditors & Tax Agents: Lead financial audits and ensure tax compliance.
    • Bankers: Manage company credit facilities, fund transfers, and bank reconciliations.
    • Regulatory Bodies: Ensure compliance with financial laws and tax authorities.
    • Insurance Agents: Handle corporate insurance policies and claims.
    • Company Secretary: Ensure company annual return document filing.
