Job summary

Invatex Consulting Sdn Bhd in Malaysia is building an in-house AI-powered tax advisory and research platform. The AI & Software Engineer will develop, maintain and enhance the platform, collaborating with the founder and content team.

You will advance AI components, improve accuracy of tax responses, enable multilingual features, manage data ingestion and document analysis, and deploy across staging and production environments.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI or related field.
• 3–5 years of software development experience.
• 1–2 years practical experience with Generative AI/LLM applications, preferably including RAG-based systems.
• Experience with existing production systems/codebases, debugging and maintenance.
• Experience deploying web-based/SaaS apps in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Manage and enhance AI components of the YourTax platform, including RAG, retrieval, prompts, AI agents and workflows.
• Improve accuracy, relevance and consistency of AI-generated tax responses; address hallucinations and source-citation issues.
• Ingest, index and retrieve Malaysian tax legislation, Public Rulings, guidelines, case law and YourTax content.
• Develop document analysis capabilities for financial statements, tax computations and tax returns.
• Develop and enhance YourTax product features across the web application.
• Troubleshoot AI engine, APIs, databases, backend services and integrations.
• Work on multilingual AI functionality (English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Tamil).
• Monitor AI performance, latency, token usage and system reliability.
• Conduct technical testing and support UAT, staging and production deployments.

We are a Malaysian technology company developing a specialist AI-powered tax advisory and research platform designed specifically for Malaysian taxation.

Our platform combines artificial intelligence with real-world professional tax expertise, enabling individuals, businesses and tax and finance professionals to obtain practical tax guidance, research Malaysian tax legislation and guidance, and analyse tax-related documents through a digital platform.

The platform uses technologies including Generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search, specialised AI agents, document analysis and multilingual text and voice capabilities.

We are now building our in-house technology team to further develop the platform, enhance its AI capabilities and introduce new features.

For the advertisement, I would keep the requirements quite targeted. You need someone who can take over and improve an existing system, not someone whose AI experience is mainly theoretical.

Job Scope – AI & Software Engineer

The role will be responsible for the ongoing development, maintenance and enhancement of the AI platform, working closely with the founder and content team.

Key responsibilities:

Manage and enhance the AI components of the YourTax platform, including RAG, retrieval, prompts, AI agents and response-generation workflows.

Improve the accuracy, relevance and consistency of AI-generated tax responses, including investigating hallucinations, incorrect retrieval and source-citation issues.

Manage the ingestion, indexing and retrieval of Malaysian tax legislation, Public Rulings, guidelines, case law and YourTax proprietary content.

Develop and improve document analysis capabilities, including user-uploaded financial statements, tax computations, tax returns and supporting documents.

Develop and enhance existing and new YourTax product features across the web application.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving the AI engine, APIs, database, backend services and integrations.

Work on multilingual AI functionality across English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil, including text and voice features.

Monitor AI performance, response quality, latency, token/API usage and system reliability.

Conduct technical testing and support UAT, staging and production deployments.

Maintain proper development, testing and production environments and ensure changes do not disrupt the live platform.

Maintain technical documentation covering system architecture, AI workflows, integrations, deployment processes and system access.

Implement appropriate version control, backups, access controls and deployment procedures.

Work with external developers/vendors where necessary while ensuring that YourTax retains sufficient internal technical knowledge and control of the platform.

Evaluate and implement new AI models, tools and technologies where they can improve YourTax's performance or functionality.

Requirements – AI & Software Engineer

Qualifications & Experience

Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related field.

Minimum 3–5 years' software development experience, with hands-on experience developing or maintaining production applications.

At least 1–2 years' practical experience working with Generative AI/LLM applications, preferably including RAG-based systems.

Experience working on an existing production system/codebase, including debugging, maintenance and feature enhancement.

Experience deploying and maintaining web-based/SaaS applications in a production environment.

Technical Skills

Strong proficiency in Python and backend development.

Hands-on experience integrating LLMs and AI APIs.

Good understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases, semantic search and document retrieval.

Experience with prompt engineering, AI agents and LLM workflow/orchestration.

Experience with SQL/databases, APIs and system integrations.

Proficiency with Git/version control and software development/deployment practices.

Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, servers, deployment, staging and production environments.

Ability to troubleshoot AI issues including hallucinations, poor retrieval, incorrect source selection, latency and inconsistent responses.

Full-stack development capability or sufficient front-end experience to develop and enhance application features.

Experience with document ingestion, parsing, indexing or document-analysis systems would be an advantage.

Experience with speech-to-text, text-to-speech and multilingual AI applications would be an advantage.
