As an Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the product development lifecycle, from initial concept and design to manufacturing support and testing, while ensuring the products are functional, safe, cost‑effective, and compliant with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare to work closely with cross‑functional teams such as customers, marketing, suppliers, production, and quality to ensure cohesive product design and functionality, whilst handling multiple projects simultaneously while focusing on various aspects of mechanical design.
- Lead the mechanical design efforts in projects, ensuring that all mechanical systems meet product requirement specifications, performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize 3D modeling and 2D drafting systems for designing solutions and applying critical thinking to develop creative, ease of manufacturing, and cost‑effective designs that meet specified criteria.
- Address issues that arise from initial prototype evaluation and assessment to ensure the designs are reliable and feasible prior to implementation.
- Drive innovation in mechanical design processes and systems by integrating new technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Continuously seek innovative solutions to design challenges and identify potential risks associated with the mechanical systems, developing mitigation strategies to address them.
- Participate in Voice of Customer (VOC) exercises to understand market trends and needs.
- Work with Offering Managers to define and establish product design requirements.
- Actively participate in creating and implementing new design concepts and ideas.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to engineering teams, ensuring best practices in mechanical design and system integration are followed.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and other team members, preparing them for advanced design and engineering roles.
- Manage and direct engineering resources effectively, ensuring that all design documentation is thorough, up‑to‑date, and adheres to Honeywell standards, including preparing detailed design specifications, reports, and presentations.
- Act as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external clients/suppliers, ensuring transparent communication regarding project status and requirements.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team by encouraging feedback and discussing lessons learned after project completion.
Key Experience & Capabilities:
- Must hold a recognized degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years in engineering design roles.
- Prior experience in managing and leading design engineering activities.
- Proficient in 3D modeling and 2D drafting systems (Creo, Siemens NX), with a focus on sectors such as metal fabrication, injection molding, and extrusions.
- Practical knowledge of FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), Virtual Moldflow analysis and engineering tools such as DFM and DFA analysis.
- Familiar with CAD Data management systems (Siemens PLM) and SAP software to manage BOM and processes is an added advantage.
- Experience in taking responsibility for project estimates, planning, reporting, timelines, resource allocation, and budgets, while maintaining compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.
- Proven record in leading design projects from conceptual to manufacturing.
- Effective communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese.
- Ability to work collaboratively within teams and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Good appreciation for modern manufacturing techniques and methodologies.
- Outgoing personality with a hands‑on approach.
- Ability to drive results with high energy and determination.
- Capability to work under pressure while managing time and priorities effectively.
- Familiar with office applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
- Motivational and supportive in managing team dynamics and enhancing performance.
