The Accounting Associate will be an integral part of the firm’s accounting and audit team, assisting with financial reporting, compliance, and day-to-day bookkeeping for clients. This role demands a high level of accuracy, time management skills, and a sound understanding of accounting principles and practices. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior accountants to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and assist clients in maintaining compliance with statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for clients, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and bank reconciliations.
- Process client transactions, including invoices, receipts, payments, and journal entries, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and policies.
- Monitor cash flow for clients, ensuring timely invoicing and payments.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Closing
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., SFRS, IFRS).
- Perform general ledger maintenance and month-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Prepare financial reports and provide basic analysis of variances for clients’ financial performance.
Tax Compliance & GST Filings
- Assist with the preparation and submission of Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns and ensure compliance with the Singapore GST Act.
- Assist clients with tax filings, ensuring proper documentation for tax returns and compliance with local tax laws.
- Support preparation of corporate tax filings, including tax computation and liaising with tax agents or authorities as required.
Audit Preparation & Support
- Prepare audit schedules and working papers, ensuring accurate supporting documentation for auditors.
- Coordinate with clients and auditors to ensure smooth audit processes and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in identifying areas for improvement in client internal controls, providing recommendations to senior accountants.
- Provide basic financial analysis to clients, highlighting key trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in advising clients on efficient accounting practices, internal controls, and compliance with industry regulations.
- Assist in reviewing and optimizing client processes, including cost management and reporting.
Administrative Support & Cross-functional Collaboration
- Communicate directly with clients, suppliers, and banks regarding finance-related matters.
- Support senior accountants in managing client portfolios, ensuring consistent service delivery and timely responses to client inquiries.
- Provide ad‑hoc administrative support as required, including organizing client meetings, assisting with business advisory services, and preparing correspondence.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (ACCA/CPA qualification or pursuing will be advantageous).
- 1–2 years of experience in a professional accounting firm, with exposure to client bookkeeping, reporting, and tax filings.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) and GST laws.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
