Job summary
A biotechnology company in Mexico is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to support operational activities in the Product Development Lab. The ideal candidate will assist with ordering supplies, maintaining inventories, and facilitating shipping and receiving processes. A high school diploma with relevant experience is required, and strong organizational skills are essential. This role offers flexibility within a Monday to Friday schedule.
Qualifications
- High school diploma with 3 years’ experience in planning, organizing, and tracking data.
- Bachelor’s degree in science preferred.
- Previous experience in ordering/purchasing preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist with ordering supplies and equipment, and approve invoices.
- Track all orders and assist with purchase order tracking.
- Maintain inventories of consumables and office supplies.
- Help with shipping and receiving tasks.
- Assist with tracking calibration reports.
- Create and edit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned.
Skills
Education
The Purchasing Assistant will assist with operational activities of our rapidly growing Product Development Lab that covers research, cell banking, process and analytical work. These activities include ordering supplies and equipment, obtaining Certificate of Analysis and SDS for items ordered, shipping and receiving, stocking supplies, multiple inventories of consumables and office supplies, and maintaining databases.
- Assist with the following: order supplies and equipment, approve invoices, obtain Certificate of Analysis and SDS for items ordered, communicate with multiple departments regarding purchasing activities and communicate with multiple vendors
- Assist with tracking all orders on spreadsheets and assist with purchase order tracking
- Assist with inventories of consumables, cell lines, and office supplies
- Assist with shipping and receiving (complete DOT and IATA training)
- Assists with receiving deliveries (sign/date and scan packing slips)
- Assist with tracking, scanning and filing pipette calibration reports
- Assist with stocking consumables and personal protection equipment (PPE)/safety supplies
- Create, edit and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed
- Performs ad-hoc and cross-functional duties and/or projects as assigned to support business needs and provide developmental opportunities
- Required: High school diploma with 3 years’ experience planning, organizing, and tracking data
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a science
- Preferred: Previous experience in ordering/purchasing
- Ability to be organized and detail oriented
- Strong analytical skills combined with practical business acumen
- Ability to thrive in a matrix and diverse cross-functional team environment
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient skills with Microsoft Excel
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and outside vendors
- Flexible to changes in priorities
- High school diploma with 3 years’ experience required (Bachelor’s degree in science preferred)
- This position works on site in Torrey Pines, CA
- Regular work schedule is Monday – Friday, within standard business hours; flexibility with manager approval
- Lab environment; must be able to gown and work with PPE
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods
