Position Overview

Insulet Corporation, maker of the OmniPod, is the leader in tubeless insulin pump technology. The Senior ML/AI Engineer will play a pivotal role in advancing Insulet’s global analytics, data science, and AI initiatives. Reporting to the Manager of Analytics Technologies, this role will lead the design and deployment of scalable machine learning systems and AI-driven solutions that directly impact patient outcomes. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Data Scientists, R&D, clinical experts, and engineering teams to develop next-generation artificial pancreas systems and intelligent insulin delivery algorithms. This position requires a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for innovation in healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and deployment of advanced machine learning models and AI systems for insulin therapy optimization.

• Architect scalable cloud-based ML pipelines using platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.

• Drive innovation in feature engineering, model interpretability, and algorithmic performance.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate clinical and business requirements into AI solutions.

• Collaborate across all stages of the MLOps lifecycle, including model deployment, monitoring, and maintenance, and contribute to the design and execution of A/B tests to validate AI/ML solutions.

• Proactively identify real-world challenges and opportunities within the domain and propose AI/ML-driven solutions based on deep technical and clinical understanding.

• Mentor and guide junior engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

• Conduct rigorous validation and testing of models to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

• Present technical findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.

• Stay current with emerging trends in AI, healthcare analytics, and regulatory standards.

• Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

• PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or statistical modeling.

• Proven track record of deploying ML/AI solutions in production environments, preferably in healthcare or medical devices.

• Experience leading technical teams or projects is highly desirable.

Skills/Competencies

• Strong leadership and project management skills.

• Expertise in Python and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark, PySpark, Hadoop).

• Proficiency in cloud-based ML platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure ML, AWS SageMaker).

• Deep understanding of neural networks, time series analysis, and model optimization techniques and Machine Learning algorithms.

• Deep expertise in designing and developing end-to-end AI solutions, including problem framing, data strategy, model selection, and integration into real-world applications.

• Familiarity with human physiology, diabetes management, and insulin signaling is a plus.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Ability to work independently and drive initiatives with minimal supervision.
