The Purchasing Specialist/Buyer manages the company’s material procurement activities and responsibilities include sourcing new suppliers, ensuring purchased products and materials meet specific technical specifications, negotiating purchase terms and evaluating supplier performance in-line with Westfall-Technik procurement guidelines and policies while ensuring timely deliveries and resolving any supply issues or discrepancies.
The Purchasing Specialist/Buyer establishes and maintains a valid Master Production Schedule (MPS) that best meets the company’s on-time delivery targets in an exclusively make-to-order, project-based production environment.
- Researching and identifying prospective suppliers
- Liaising with internal project teams and maintaining strong supplier relations
- Evaluating products and suppliers according to key business criteria
- Preparing proposals, requesting quotes, and negotiating purchase terms and conditions
- Preparing and issuing purchase orders and agreements
- Monitoring all purchase orders and maintaining regular follow-up with all suppliers and vendors
- Monitoring supplier performance and resolving issues and concerns
- Inspecting and evaluating the quality of purchased items and resolving shortcomings
- Analyzing industry and demand trends and supporting management with the development and implementation of sourcing strategies
- Preparing reports and maintaining accurate inventory and procurement records
- Complying with company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
- Determining opportunities to move business to preferred suppliers for improved savings and service
- Evaluating and driving raw material inventory reduction opportunities by collaborating with suppliers and customers in inventory programs
- Identifying savings opportunity at the site, implementing savings opportunities identified through cross-company initiatives
- Planning and implementing validation processes for control measures
- Coordinating with other functional groups to ensure that planning activity results in highest possible on-time completion/delivery for customers
- Participating in the structure and creation of project BOMs most efficient for plant routing
- Coordinating through production, determining material availability, identifying actions and solutions required to meet projected delivery requirements
- Preparing production analysis charts and machine load forecasts and labor forecasts
- Following up on planned vs actual production activity with reports to indicate accuracy
- Utilizing a basic understanding of lean manufacturing and JIT principles including tools to apply in appropriate situations
