Student Conduct Officer
American International University
Reports to: Director of Student Safety and Well-Being
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Student Safety and Well-Being, the incumbent is responsible for the support and development of students’ personal and social-emotional growth. Furthermore, the Student Conduct Officer is primarily responsible for the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct and ensuring all students are aware of their Rights and Responsibilities, the AIU Student Code of Conduct, and the Student Handbook. Additionally, the Student Conduct Officer adheres to AIU’s procedures and policies. Also responsible for all student discipline for non-academic violations.
- Provides professional support to the Director of Student Safety and Well-Being by administering and coordinating the University\'s student conduct procedures and policies, to include coordinating student disciplinary actions, administering sanctions, responding to crises, inputting, and maintaining data in the University\'s student conduct tracking system, and serving as a key member of the Student Conduct team.
- Investigate alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct. Conduct investigative interviews with students who allegedly violate the Student Conduct Code under the procedures outlined in the Code of Conduct.
- Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
- Coordinates student disciplinary actions and sanctions with campus partners, including the Director of Student Safety and Well-Being, Academic Deans, Campus Security, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Student Affairs.
- Provides guidance to AIU staff, faculty, deans, and students, as well as formalized training and presentations, regarding student conduct policies and processes, student grievance and disciplinary procedures, academic integrity, changes to AIU policies and procedures, and other related matters.
- Administers sanctions, issues no-contact directives and campus ban, conducts hearings, parent meetings, and educational conferences in accordance with the University\'s student discipline process and/or organizations in violation of the University\'s Codes of Conduct; recommends interventions and education for students regarding social media, copyright issues, and other related student conduct concerns.
- Responds to student crises and emergencies in conjunction with the AIU Campus Security and Response Committee to include referrals to appropriate medical professionals.
- Represents the Director of Student Safety and Well-Being on various committees and/or teams to address a range of student issues, activities and initiatives and provides input on improvements to policies, procedures, educational opportunities, and issues such as campus safety and the use of tobacco, or other topics as it related to campus.
- Supports the overall activities of the Office of Student Conduct, to include providing input on opportunities to enhance efficient operations within the department and participation in Office of Student Conduct programs, services, and events.
- Meet regularly with the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Student Safety and Well-Being and other team members to review case progress and concerns.
- Assists the Director of Student Safety and Well-Being in providing an appropriate and coordinated response from the University to personal and campus emergencies involving students.
- Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Vice President for Student Affairs.
- Supports the Director of Student Safety and Well-Being with annual reviews of the Code of Conduct and student conduct processes and recommends appropriate revisions.
- Contribute to projects and the design and delivery of campaigns and a variety of development or promotional materials to improve general student conduct and safety and raise awareness regarding expectations of conduct.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Safety and Well-Being and the Vice President for Student Affairs.
Skills
- Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly and effectively at all levels within the University in Arabic and English; must possess effective bilingual presentation skills.
- Must be able to translate sensitive information pertaining to conduct cases in from English to Arabic and Arabic to English.
- Demonstrate a strong level of written Arabic and English.
- Must possess skills to be able to explain and demonstrate the essential functions of the position; demonstrated knowledge and experience within all facets of the Student Conduct investigating, reporting, and decision making.
- Must possess strong computer and processing skills to operate online case management systems and produce data reports.
- Ability to negotiate and reach mutual points of understanding among peers and colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to understanding the University structure, policies, and procedures, particularly as it impacts the engagement and success of students.
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence as it relates to student development within student conduct both with academic and behavior misconduct.
- Demonstrated competency and experiences in the application, implementation and delivery of technology with conduct management tools.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards especially as it relates to the implementation of policies and procedures associated with the personal growth and development of students.
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in decision-making, problem solving, organizational and time management skills.
- Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and problem solve broad strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, peers and campus and community constituents.
- Ability to work varied hours including evenings and weekends.
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree required in Higher Education Administration/Student Personnel, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Resources, or related field; based upon professional experience.
- Experience in conflict resolution and managing the expectations of Higher Education students.
- Experience in supporting the development of policies and procedures to assist with the university’s mission.
