A leading engineering company in Kuwait City is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 15-20 years of experience, including 5-8 years in a managerial role. The role involves ensuring the optimal operation of thermal power plants and compliance with safety and quality standards. Candidates should possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering and have strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Qualifications

• 15-20 years of experience; out of which 5-8 years in Senior Managerial role.
• Knowledge in Engineering Standards and codes of practice, Contract and commercial.
• Knowledge in engineering practice devoted to the management of project cost.

Responsibilities

• Ensure optimal operation of thermal power plants, including machinery maintenance.
• Supervise and assign work in the power plant operations.
• Maintain compliance with safety standards and company quality requirements.

Job description

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Mechanical engineer working in thermal power plants, mechanical engineers make sure heavy machinery like boilers and turbines, are working in optimal condition and power is continually generated. Mechanical engineers also work with the operations of the plant.
• Knowledge with all types of geothermal plants include dry steam power stations, flash steam power stations and binary cycle power stations, all of which use steam turbines to produce electricity.

Steam power generation Plant:

• Knowledge of the types and uses of high-and low-pressure boilers.
• Knowledge of the types and uses of steam plant accessory equipment, such as throttle valves, super heaters, back-pressures valves, feedwater regulators, etc.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques used in firing and operating high-or low pressure natural gas or oil-fired boilers and their auxiliary equipment.
• Knowledge of the use of computers and micro-electronic based information gathering and control interfaces for power generation and boiler plant operations.
• Knowledge of the proper methods for storing and handling fuels.
• Knowledge and understanding of the safety hazards working in a co-generation power plant and the methods of protocol used to address emergency situations.
• Knowledge of calibration and/or adjustment techniques as applied to electronic control systems and monitoring/recording devices.
• Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates’ training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action.
• Ability to use high pressure natural gas compressors and distribution.
• Knowledge of the cycle used in thermal power plant such as oil-fired power plants. In this mechanism, a fuel is used to produce heat within a boiler, converting water into steam which then expands through a turbine producing useful work.
