This role involves developing and delivering curriculum, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment, for the students in grades 6-8 on mathematical concepts preparing them for higher- level studies.
Responsibilities and duties:
Instruction and curriculum
- Develop engaging and effective lesson plans that are aligned with national/ American curriculum and school standards.
- Teach core mathematical concepts, which may include pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, statistics, and proportional relationships.
- Differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Integrate educational technology and hands-on activities to enhance learning experiences.
Assessment and evaluation
- Create and administer various assessments, such as homework, quizzes, and tests, to measure student performance and understanding.
- Analyze assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' attendance, grades, and progress.
Student and parent engagement
- Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom culture that encourages student participation.
- Communicate regularly and proactively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and expectations.
- Provide extra support to students who are struggling with coursework.
- Serve as a mentor and advocate for students as they transition from Middle to high school.
Collaboration and professional development
- Collaborate with other teachers, administrators and Principle to ensure student success.
- Participate in department and school-wide meetings, as well as parent-teacher conferences and school events.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with teaching methods and best practices.
Required qualifications and skills
Education and certification
- Bachelor's degree: Hold a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
Technical skills
- Strong proficiency in mathematical concepts relevant to the middle school curriculum.
- Expertise in instructional strategies and curriculum development.
- Familiarity with educational software, student information systems (like Google Classroom), and other technology.
Soft skills
- Communication: Effectively explain complex mathematical concepts and communicate with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience and empathy: Exhibit patience and understanding, particularly when students struggle with difficult material.
