Job description

A Mechanic is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, adjustment, repair, or overhaul of mobile mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment such as cranes, wheel loaders, excavators and other heavy equipment.

Key Commitment
  • Adhere to workshop policies, processes, procedures as mentioned in operations policies & procedures manual and direct manager instructions.
  • Ensure that company requirements of equipment/items are processed in the most cost effective and economical and timely manner within the framework of defined company policies.
  • Report any non-compliance operations.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.
  • Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records; maintaining a service report, properly allocating time to each job, and tracking parts changed and parts returned.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  • Assemble gear systems, and align frames and gears.
  • Keep equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
  • Maintain safe and clean shops by removing parts and tools from work areas and adhering to safety protocols. This includes following established procedures for safe disposal of motor oil, tires, and other vehicle fluids.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction by understanding customer needs and deadlines, attempting to complete scheduled repairs and service as safely, timely and accurately as possible.
Skills
  • Diagnostic & Troubleshooting skills – Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it; strong diagnostic skills, some exposure to on‑board diagnostic (OBD) technologies, and the ability to identify mechanical issues.
  • Equipment Maintenance knowledge – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed; ability to read hydraulic schematics and record keeping.
  • Time Management skills – Managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Team work – Mechanics generally work in teams with technicians and assistants, so teamwork are vital in this role.
  • Communication skills – Mechanic should also be strong communicators, especially when working directly with customers, technicians and supervisors to discuss automotive issues and propose solutions.
