Job Title: Library Assistant

Position Requires Relocation to Kuwait

Reports To: Librarian

Location: Al Jahra, Kuwait

Job Purpose

To support the daily operations of the AIU Library by assisting students, faculty, and staff in accessing academic resources and information services. This position contributes to AIU’s mission by ensuring that users have efficient access to information, maintaining the organization of library materials, and promoting a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide quality assistance to students, faculty, and staff in person, online, and via phone.
  • Manage the library service desk, ensuring that users receive accurate support or referrals as needed.
  • Prepare the library for opening and closing, including maintaining records such as gate counts and updating signage.
  • Maintain library order, security, and discipline to ensure a conducive environment for study and research.
  • Stay informed about library programs, policies, and procedures, and communicate them effectively to users.
  • Liaise with other university departments regarding matters related to library operations and services.
  • Guide students in locating library materials and using the library’s collections and databases.
  • Participate in organizing library events, book displays, and reading promotion activities.
  • Perform circulation duties including checking materials in and out through the library system.
  • Shelve returned items, ensure accurate organization, and arrange repair or replacement of damaged materials.
  • Provide basic technical assistance for library systems, computers, and office equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Librarian.
Required Skills And Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret bibliographic records, citations, and library call numbers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective user service.
  • Frontline customer service experience in an academic or public service setting.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and basic troubleshooting of office equipment (printers, copiers, PCs).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask in a busy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Librarianship or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in library, archive, or museum services.
  • Familiarity with cataloging systems, book classification methods, and metadata standards.
