Job summary

New Mowasat Hospital in Kuwait seeks a Consultant in Diabetology Endocrinology to plan, direct and supervise care for patients with hormone disorders in line with MOH regulations and hospital policies.

The role includes providing comprehensive in- patient and out-patient consultations, interpreting diagnostic tests, advising on treatment options and conducting ongoing patient education for diabetes and related metabolic conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medicine with specialized training in Endocrinology.
• Licensing by Kuwait Ministry of Health to practice.
• Active clinical practice in endocrinology and diabetology.

Responsibilities

• Provides inpatient and outpatient consultations for disorders of the glandular and hormonal systems.
• Examines patients for signs of hormone imbalance and related diseases.
• Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to determine diagnosis and treatment.
• Plans and reviews patient care, medical records and case histories.
• Administers treatment plans including medications and follow-up.
• Counsels patients on diet, lifestyle and prevention related to endocrine disorders.

Job Overview

The Consultant Diabetology Endocrinology plans, directs, administers and supervises activities for patients with hormone disorders and diseases of the body's glandular system in accordance with Ministry of Health regulations, Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Diabetes Center Policies and Guidelines. Reports on matters relating to patient care division to the Medical Director through the Clinical Director-Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Provides In-Patient and Out-Patient consultations for disorders of the human glandular and hormonal systems.
• Examines patients for signs and symptoms of hormone imbalance disorders or diseases such as osteoporosis, diabetes or thyroid malfunction.
• Recommends or orders diagnostic tests to better understand a patient's condition, interprets results and determines diagnosis.
• Prepares and reviews case histories and clinical records.
• Examines patients and plans treatment and medical management options.
• Conducts assessment of blood sugar level and insulin within a patient's body to diagnose diabetes.
• Explains the condition to a patient once abnormalities or illnesses are detected, prescribes treatment and conducts follow-up.
• Counsels patients on subjects such as diet, hygiene and other areas of preventative maintenance for problems such as hypertension and cholesterol levels.
• Administers and prescribes conservative measures of treatment as drugs, insulin and antibiotics.
• Monitors patient's condition and progress and re-evaluates treatment as necessary.
• Receives referrals and consultations from other disciplines for metabolic diseases, Endocrine and related complications.

• Includes the patients in discussions concerning appropriate diagnostic and management procedures.
• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care needs.
• Works in a seamless integrated multi-disciplinary environment to provide the highest level of care.
• Maintains a work environment that promotes high standards for patient care and ethical behavior compliance with Medical Ethics.

Compliance and Ethics

• Ensures implementation of Ministry of Health regulations, Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, rules, regulations, and Internal Medicine policies and guidelines.
• Ensures implementation of the standard concepts, practices and procedures within the field of diabetics.
• Exhibits appropriate professional behavior, practices medicine ethically.
• Respects the opinions of fellow consultants and referring physicians.
• Recognizes limits of personal skills and knowledge by appropriately consulting other consultants while caring for the patient.
• Maintains current personal clinical skills and knowledge by continuing medical education (CME).

Other Duties

• Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement programs for diabetics services.
• Provides teaching materials as part of the professional development of the department staff.
• Attends meetings of the diabetics center to discuss rules, regulations, obstacles in work, incidents, complications encountered and suggestions to improve quality of service.
• Participates in organizational performance improvement activities.
• Accepts all other additional assignments found necessary by the Clinical Director-Internal Medicine, Medical Director, and Assistant Medical Director.

Education and Certification

• Bachelors’ degree in Medicine with specialized training in Endocrinology. Membership/Fellowship (preferably of the Royal College), PhD or MD degree in relevant specialty.
• Basic Life Support Certification is desirable.

Licensing

Valid license from Ministry of Health – Kuwait to practice as an endocrinology consultant.
