Job summary

Musick Peeler & Garrett LLP in Los Angeles is seeking a Research Librarian to provide legal research support to attorneys and staff firmwide. The role is full-time, non-exempt, and hybrid; after 60 days on-site, the position becomes eligible to work remotely two days a week.

The Research Librarian will conduct legal research on case law, statutes, regulations, and judicial decisions, manage subscriptions, and assist with vendor contracts and onboarding training for attorneys and paralegals.

Qualifications

Master's in Library Science and/or JD degree preferred, or 5 years of relevant law-firm research experience.
Experience with Lexis, Westlaw, Law360, Accurint, PeopleMap, DataTree and similar research subscriptions.
Familiarity with AI-assisted legal research tools and ability to assess their accuracy, limitations and cost-effectiveness.
Excellent written and verbal communication, with attention to accuracy and detail.

Responsibilities

Conduct investigative legal research on case law, statutes and regulations using firm resources.
Recommend additions to the library collection and manage subscriptions and renewals.
Negotiate and maintain contracts with major research vendors and track invoices.
Provide training and presentations on research tools and techniques to attorneys and staff.
