We are seeking a highly skilled professional to take a role as System Operations Manager.

Location: Milan, Italy.

An innovative and rapidly growing media technology company is looking for a System Operations Manager.

The individual will be responsible for leading both the technical operations and the strategic management of the production CDN infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring advanced technical expertise in Linux systems, configuration management, and monitoring, while also demonstrating exceptional leadership, team management, and strategic planning abilities to ensure operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of provisioning, configuring, and optimizing Linux-based systems across various server roles, including edge servers and application-specific servers.
  • Maintain consistent and compliant system configurations using tools like Rudder, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Oversee and optimize monitoring platforms (e.g., Zabbix, Prometheus) to track system performance, detect anomalies, and ensure uptime.
  • Conduct regular maintenance tasks, including updates, patches, and performance tuning to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate on capacity planning to align infrastructure resources with current and future demands.
  • Develop and execute long‑term strategies for scaling, optimizing, and enhancing CDN infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and customer teams to align system operations with organizational goals.
  • Define and implement operational best practices to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Plan and oversee system migrations, upgrades, and expansion projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of system operations engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and technical excellence.
  • Coordinate staffing, schedules, and resource allocation to ensure 24/7 operational coverage.
  • Create and monitor KPIs for the team to measure performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Build and maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, processes, and procedures to support team knowledge sharing and efficiency.
  • Generate detailed reports on operational metrics, incident management, and improvement plans, presenting these to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields (or equivalent experience).
  • A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in system operations or a related role, with a strong focus on high-demand industries such as CDN, broadcast, or media.
  • At least 3 years in a managerial or team leadership role.
  • Advanced expertise in Linux systems administration, configuration management, and monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting using Bash, Python, or similar tools.
  • Experience with storage technologies (e.g., Ceph, ZFS) and network routing tools (e.g., FRR, Quagga).
  • Knowledge of CDN infrastructure and edge computing is a significant advantage.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate a technical team, driving both individual and collective success.
  • Strong organizational skills, including project management and prioritization in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
