Job Description

The full-stack software engineering role will be contributing towards accelerating the automation and digitization efforts of the laboratory operation for UL Solutions. The candidate will be a part of a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, data scientists, architects, and other engineers working toward developing digital tools and automation solutions for the lab. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing web applications and contributing towards enterprise digitization efforts. In this role, you will collaborate closely with users, product teams, technology teams, and management. This position requires a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement. Our primary technology stack uses JavaScript / TypeScript and Python hosted in Azure.

Responsibilities

• As a full-stack software engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team developing software solutions for the lab.
• Proven experience in developing and delivering software solutions, features, and issue remediation.
• Work closely with users to understand workflows and deliver solutions based on feedback.
• Develop and modify information system programs.
• Support implementation across multiple platforms and applications.
• Assist in problem resolution by modifying procedures as needed.
• Consider equipment capacity and limitations when developing solutions.
• Identify system requirements by interviewing users and analyzing applications.
• Analyze and resolve application issues.
• Monitor software project progress and recommend actions.
• Improve system performance through investigation and technology trend analysis.
• Collaborate effectively as part of a team.
• Follow UL's Code of Conduct and security practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js, React.js, Angular).
• 3+ years of backend web development experience with frameworks like Django, Flask, FastAPI.
• Experience working in dynamic, cross-functional teams.
• Nice-to-Haves:
• Experience in electrical labs or electrical engineering backgrounds.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub.
• Comfort with TypeScript.
• Experience with Azure or AWS, Docker, and Linux scripting.
• Familiarity with project management tools like Azure DevOps or Jira.
