The role involves designing enterprise-grade architectures, transitioning to microservices, and developing secure cloud-native applications. Ideal candidates have over 10 years of experience in architecture design and Java development, with skills in Angular and DevSecOps practices. This position requires occasional onsite work in Brussels.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Senior Cloud & Software Architect (Java, Microservices, Angular) | European Institutions

We are currently looking for a Senior Architect with strong hands-on development skills to support our client’s projects at a prestigious European Institution in Brussels.

The mission involves architecture design, modernization of enterprise systems, and development of secure, scalable solutions, with a strong focus on Java, Microservices, Cloud-Native applications, and Angular.

In this role, you will contribute to:

• Designing and enforcing enterprise-grade architectures.
• Driving the transition from monolithic systems to microservices.
• Building cloud-native applications and secure DevSecOps pipelines.
• Guiding development teams while remaining actively involved in coding.

For this job, you should reside maximum within 2 hours by car from Brussels, with up to 5 days per month required onsite.

Your Tasks

• Design and implement enterprise and cloud-native architectures using frameworks such as TOGAF.
• Lead the transition from monolith to microservices, ensuring scalability and resilience.
• Develop and maintain Java / JEE and Spring Boot applications, including version migrations.
• Contribute to front-end development with Angular (2+), ideally Angular 18.
• Apply DevSecOps practices: Infrastructure as Code, Docker, Vault, Consul, OAuth2 / OpenID Connect.
• Define and enforce architecture decisions at code and pull request level.
• Integrate observability and monitoring tools (Dynatrace, ElasticSearch, Grafana).
• Work with Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Liquibase for data and messaging solutions.
• Design and secure REST and SOAP APIs.
• Ensure quality through CI / CD pipelines, automated testing, and code reviews.

Your Skills and Experience

Mandatory expertise :

• 10+ years in Architecture Design (patterns, enterprise frameworks, multi-tier applications).
• 10+ years in Microservices (event-driven, eventual consistency, orchestration).
• 10+ years in Cloud-Native applications (containerization, orchestration, scalable services).
• 10+ years in Java / JEE (Spring Boot, migrations).
• 5+ years with Angular 2+ (preferably Angular 18).
• 5+ years in Cloud DevSecOps (IaC, Docker, Vault, Consul, OAuth2, OpenID Connect).
• 5+ years with Cloud & Container Services (CaaS, orchestration, cloud infra).
• 5+ years in Architecture Enforcement & Review (architecture-as-code).
• 5+ years with Observability / Monitoring Tools (Dynatrace, ElasticSearch, Grafana).

Additional knowledge highly valued :

• TOGAF, ITIL, IASA, Oracle, Spring, Angular, Cloud Security, OAuth certifications.
• Strong experience in REST / SOAP APIs, Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Liquibase.

• CI / CD tools : Jenkins, GitLab, Sonar, Bitbucket.
• NGINX, SOAP UI, IntelliJ / Eclipse, Maven / Ant.

Agile / Scrum methodologies.

Extra information

• Contract type : Permanent employment or freelance
• Start date : ASAP (before the end of the year)
• Location : Brussels, Belgium
• Work mode : Reside maximum within 2 hours by car from Brussels, with up to 5 days / month required onsite. Relocation required if beyond 2h travel.
• Eligibility : Open to EU citizens and non-EU citizens already residing in the EU with a valid work permit (due to the sensitive nature of institutional data).
