Job Title: Cost Estimation Engineer

Responsibilities

• To realize an estimation of the technical cost of the parts/systems defined by the engineering team.
• To analyze Electric scope to find opportunities.
• To analyze Mechanical scope to find opportunities.
• To support the Engineering team in the design to cost way of working.
• To participate in the creation of the target cost.
• To support the sourcing team in the negotiation with the suppliers.

Organisation Reporting

To adapt site by site, but the recommendation by order of preference is Engineering Dpt, Costing Dpt, Tender & Project Dpt.

• Lead Engineer and Designer

• Procurement team
• Tender or Project team members

Performance Measurement/KPI’s

• Accuracy of the cost calculation versus technical product definition.

Apply or develop a methodology to calculate the technical cost of a component/system along the product development cycle (from parametric to analytic methodology).

Propose improvements of the design or manufacturing process to reduce the technical cost.

Promote the cost culture in the engineering team.

Provide the cost breakdown of the component to the sourcing team (negotiation support).

Accountabilities

• Based on the prioritization issued by the Train Cost Leader analysis & cost follow-up:
• Deliver and update at least monthly to the Train Cost Leader the main cost stakes to be addressed.
• Propose for each of them the relevant action plan using the Design to Cost processes, tools & expertise.
• Participate in those action plans and ensure the transformation of the identified potential into validated savings.
• Communication:
• Ensure the alignment with the product definition and put in place a close and fruitful communication with and between all the Design to Cost and Core Team métiers.
• Make sure their requirements are considered and that DtC results are known and circulated.

Knowledge & Experience

Mandatory:

• Good Excel, Qliksense, DMA, and Catia skills.
• Good Product knowledge.
• Good Product Competitiveness knowledge.
• Good Industrial Process knowledge.
• Knowledge in the electric/mechanical field.
• Curious.
• Open-mindedness.
• Rigorous.
• Good communication with other people.

Nice to have:

• Able to use DMA/CATIA for basic work.
• Able to use SAP to extract costing information.
