Job summary

NatWest Group is seeking a DevOps Engineer to strengthen automation and platform reliability across the software lifecycle. You will design scalable systems, drive DevOps practices, and secure buy-in from product and platform leads to improve deployment velocity and governance.

You’ll collaborate on DevOps strategy, build relationships with stakeholders, and implement cloud-native architectures with AWS, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS cloud and cloud-native architecture.
• Proficiency in Terraform and IaC for cloud provisioning and automation.
• Hands-on with GitLab CI/CD and deployment automation.
• Strong container experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting for automation.
• Familiarity with SRE, observability, and DevSecOps in Enterprise contexts.

What you'll do

As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing and implementing solutions, driving automation, and optimising performance across the software development lifecycle. You’ll be securing buy-in to DevOps methodologies from the Product Owner, Platform Lead, and other key business stakeholders, driving commitment to an alternative way of working.

We’ll look to you to build and leverage internal and external relationships to make sure that decisions made are commercially focused and create long-term value for the bank. You’ll also be collaborating in the development of the DevOps strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals.

In addition, you’ll be:

• Designing and overseeing the architecture of systems and applications with a focus on scalability and reliability
• Analysing system performance and optimising infrastructure to improve efficiency and reduce costs
• Driving innovation by evaluating and integrating new technologies that enhance the DevOps ecosystem
• Leading the automation of advanced workflows, creating reusable modules and templates
• Making sure that practices align with compliance requirements and industry standards
• Communicating effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical guidance

The skills you'll need

To take on this role, you’ll need knowledge of the core principles and benefits of DevOps, paired with experience with common DevOps tools, source code management, deployment, and configuration tooling.

You’ll also need:

• Experience in scripting and working within a governed and regulated change framework
• Knowledge and experience of Agile ways of working
• Experience of deploying business critical systems to production on a daily continuous basis
• Knowledge of portfolio management theories, models, and practices, within an Agile or DevOps environment
• Strong experience with AWS, including cloud-native architecture and platform design
• Expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for provisioning, managing, and automating cloud infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, deployment automation, and DevOps practices across production environments
• Strong knowledge of container technologies including Docker, Kubernetes
• Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting to enable automation, platform operations, and continuous improvement
• Experience with monitoring, observability, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), networking, governance, and DevSecOps principles within enterprise cloud environments
